Classified discussion continue

Firstly reading through this has made me feel guilty so I'll now be paying the subscription! woohooo

Secondly as someone fairly new and from an outside point of view, I think you should allow all members to view classifieds ads, BUT disable their ability to reply to classifieds or private message the seller, so the apple is there for the taking, but to take a bite they need to subscribe.[/quote]
Wehay - give the man a club shop voucher for the best and most sincere answer so far !
Jay - a better question then is why did you pay ?

This subject opens the bigger can of membership and access or more simply why pay at all ? I confess that I asked myself that qustion before resubscribing - it comes down to what I believe the club has given me and what it still can !

As for putting off sellers who're not subscribed members....this is THE best place to sell zparts - they could sell them on ebay but then they'd have to pay an ebay charge and probably paypal as well - here at least it can be totally free !

If people are worried about small parts (and values) sellers being put off by a charge or membership required, let 'em pay after a certain amount of sold value has been attained.

In all, why should people pay when others don't ? Suit you Chris ?

Ok this might be a silly question..........I'm a member of another car forum here in Ireland, its very well run and has probably 5 or 6 times the traffic of the zclub, yet there is no member fee, infact this is the only club ive come across where you have to pay to join, why is that?

Does the site have Google ads on it? Do you have a link and I'll tell you how they fund it :)

Haven't a clue about hosting, Yes we have a meeting (cars and coffee) the first sunday of every month, No we dont have insurance, I dont see the point, Hopefully I wont fall and break my arm going into costa coffee or getting in or out of my car.
No we dont get a members pack either, again doesn't bother me the club is free.

Yes it is a multimark forum for both classic and modern cars.

Ive been a paid member here since I joined in 2007, Im not complaining, I was just wondering how other forums manage without charging people thats all.

No the site has no google ads, like I said its a very well run site.

Sean. I joined because at the time there was a magazine which I thought was well worth the 15 a month, but now that thats gone I dont see the point in me paying a membership fee of 15 pounds this year.

I've been out all day and seen now that this discussion has expanded into a Membership benefits Thread too.

Jay, as Steve has asked what does the club do other than host a website - I'd like to know.

Sean, is there a charge for membership to your French Club?

Just for the record I pay my £15 each year and I don't like this two tier membership either, I think we need to make changes.

What I would stress though is that through being a member of the Z Club I saved more than that last year when attending events as a Z Club Member .

Me think that forign members who trade in Z stuff, should wait atleast in 3 days before they should be able to buy ;)

I know it is unlikely that the organiser would face a claim but hey if they did they could lose their house and be in debt for the rest of their lives
its not if you fall and break your arm more a case of someone at the meet causing someone else who is nothing to do with the organised meet to fall and breaking their arm(using you example) and the organiser of the event being sued

Except those who're paid up members AND traders and therefore paid another fee !

This trader is going to look at making these parts and is wondering whether there is enough interest in Denmark after all ? One seems more upset at not haing a special membership rate than not having bought said parts............:p !

Rob, the club has about 6 trackdays a year, meet for (cars and coffee) once a month, ring trips etc.

Im sure you and everyone else in the UK gets their 15 pounds worth, but for me living across the pond, well I dont

I'm not staying on here all night because I haven't spoken to my wife this evening yet but thinking out loud I'm thinking a 'Website Member' should be basically a 'Forum Member'. So they can discuss Z things on the Forum but nothing else not even sell stuff (buy?).

So if you want to actively/physically take part in the Z Club you pay to become a Z Club Member.

So basically you decide how involved and part of the Club you want to be.

What do you think?

Yes I know the 'site costs money to host and Website Members get the Forum but how do we overcome that?

Jay, as Steve has asked what does the club do other than host a website - I'd like to know.

With respect Rob - your questions don't inspire me with confidence that The Z Club is going to do anything here about tiered membership !

I see that you're looking for info but I feel also that you're comparing and I don't believe that's right - the circumstances are different so any comparison will lead to false conclusions. Besides, ideas should be springing forth from the committe - not questions.

Don't take it bad - I'm not having a go.

Our club is free to register, just as it is here for unsubscribed members. We ask people for a donation and graefully accept it but also don't frown upon those who don't.
Those that do and also those that choose to specifically become 'Gold' members have more access on the forum - as per the members' section here, they have access to documentation, FIA specs on each model and other such stuff AND reductions with our commercial 'partners' which is the most important benefit.

We ask €10 per year and members can easily get that back with one order placed somewhere. Members obviously get access to certain events that as a private individual that wouldn't and reduced tickets for others (ie Le Mans Classic). Being a club member means that we, as a small committee look after them, events for example - the tickets etc are all organised - they pay, turn up and have fun !

That is also a service and services can be paid for in membership as much as can goods.

We don't have a club shop (we don't have the funds to be able to stock it) but produce a calender which we sell, small stickers for cars etc and hope to broaden the range to appeal to the wide membership that we have :

Zs, ZXs, berlines, coupés, roadsters - all between 1964 and 1989 - 25 years of Datsun/Nissan heritage !

I've said it before and I'll repeat it here....this club is in great danger of losing its' identity and purpose ! Once it becomes just another 'social club' or 'bulletin/ads board', it's in competition with other bigger and better forums.

Yes, I started off by saying club and ended up by saying forum - it was deliberate - what's the difference now ?

Rob, the club has about 6 trackdays a year, meet for (cars and coffee) once a month, ring trips etc.

In that case the forum /club you are talking about really must have Public liability Insurance

the guys who are running it are really being foolish not having it

A PLI policy if set up right will protect not only the clubs committee but anyone who puts on an event on the clubs behalf

really advise you to get your guys to look into the worse case scenario

Its more than that just that though, like was said earlier, who pays for the site you mentioned Jay....no really, this site costs the club several £K per annum because it has to have reliability and bandwidth, we have suffered in the past with poor providers and there are many many pages of discussion several years ago about it and when all the critics really looked and read the numbers they strangely went quiet

Yes I could host it on my lap top but you wouldnt get any of the above
Yes in an ideal world we could get traders advertising to pay for it that would amount to around £3.50 as we are a single (rare) marque with little appeal to HKS, Stillen, or whoever is written on the side of the car.

On Steve's point....having no insurance is great, until someone claims, then your in the shit and Ive never found a broker yet that does retro-spective insurance.

This is no dig at you Jay, all I say is that all that glisters isnt gold
This club keeps a VERY close eye on its expenditure and takes pride in spending fees wisely

I sent the link to the other club to Andy, Its financed through traders paying for advertising.

Skiddell, It was a simple question I asked, I just wanted to know how other clubs are free and this one isn't, I now know why.

If I lived in the UK ide have no problem paying up the 15 pounds, I dont benifet at all by being a paid up member.

I do have a suggestion tho, how about charging all UK member 17 pounds a year, and have all overseas members with no benifets free :D

One seems more upset at not haing a special membership rate than not having bought said parts............ !
Nope not really, let's take it from the start, when i first joined the forum i asked how i could get a avatar, this is the answer i got, "get in from the cold and be a club menber" something like that, i tried to look in to it and found that i wouldn't have a chance to get benefit of all the stuff the club could offer, if i'm not mistaken there was a paper magasine at that time (2007) witch i wouldn't get due to cost of shipping, this leves me with a feeling that i would have to pay for something i dont get, do you know that feeling Jay ??......
Today i asked for the price of a membership cos i couldn't find that info anywhere, not even a admin could tell me that

And then came Rob Gaskin:driving: and made it clear to me, that we are talking about freaking £15 a year come on guys, this is ridicilous and i think this club could get even more members to pay if it could be done in another maner, give people the will to pay.

Sean, read this very carfull, the way you try to force me in to be a member, could very easy turn me in the opposit direction and to me, that is a redicilous way of trying to hire members, i'm tempted to tell you to take those steering arms and stick them up you a..e, but i won't.

All this is not about the arms, for me it's not, it's about decent behavior, no need to be a French Hamster making stock piles of parts and shout first dibbs on every 2nd ad that comes up and i believe i'm not the only one feeling like that.

A seller have the right to sell to whom ever he/she want to sell to, "first bird gets the seed", hell no, thats up to the seller to decide, regarding those arms, i wrote Nigel Brook a message asking for price of shipping, very short after the ad came up, circa 3 hours before Sean shouted 1st dibbs, that does not give me the right to buy it, to me that is solo up to Mr Brook, BUT why didn't you respond Mr. Brook, telling me to piss off or that you would prefer to sell to your old matie, i would have respected that, i never got a reply, so today i decited to press the BIN button, to see what would happen and also to get some kind of response, i paid for the items via PayPal, and got the money refounded soon after, it were allready sold !!!!............. why wasn't i told, why did i have to loose money on exchange rates ??........ why is a seller not obligated to mark an ad as sold or remove it, after a sale ??.......

Why Nigel Brook did yo complain when the AD got marked as sold

I find all this stuff kind of funny, i really do and i see that there is a need for some updated roules in the classified section, witch i think should be free to everyone, paying member or not.

Oh one more thing, what's in the welcome package?? and why shouldn't i have one if becoming a member?, there must be some benefits to take advantage of, right.

And Sean, i have a spare set of steering arms, so if we ever meet up...... don't bend over:D

Chris

I agree alot with what Chris has to say, Only thing I dont agree with is the seller being able to choose who ever he/she want to sell an item to.
The first person to reply with interest to the thread should be given the option to buy and given 24 hours to pay, unless the "buy now" option is used in which case the item should come up as sold.

Oh and did I mention the overseas annual membership fee?

Chris, Jay - What do you propose would be a fair amount to pay for overseas membership? I'm just interested as to what you think it would be worth to you that's all :)

Andy, Idealy nothing :D, Ide be happy to pay 7.50, thats about 10 euro. And for that I wouldn't expect the pen and airfreshener ;).

So Id'e pay 7.50 for my name to be the colour red, I think thats a fair price

Thanks Jay :) IMO (and it is exactly that), £7.50 is better than £0. If that would mean we attracted more overseas members then it has to be a good thing :)
