As the lost blue MPV in cars said "don't need a may - got the GPS" !

Chris - wrong question !

I laughed Skiddy but I know it was hard - I knew Mandy as well and you and Jak took it to higher levels !

But whatever happened to the "Back to Basics" theme......?

As you can tell the 4 years on the job has left me mentally scarred and needing tablets twice a day.

Jokingly compared to me you had it easy a hell of a lot of people had pcs when you were doing it
Just imagine scraps of handwritten paper mostly and sometimes an occasional typewritten article no spell checker no emails so people could use that to send just the old fashioned snail mail and the time spent on the phone to people pleading with them for some sort of write up on something was unbeleivable

Agree with you it was a shit of a job and it left me on tablets a lot longer than you

And boy was I the most hated person in the club when I brought up that we needed to scrap the magazine or go broke in two years and that was with membership fees at £30

Since dropping the magazine and reducing the fees to £15 for the last 2 years we have had about 1k spare to play with and the committee decided that the best use of that money was for every paid up member to get a calendar as a way of saying thank you for paying your dues

I for one would feel embarrassed if we produced a cheapskate Mag when i remember the quality one that was produced

You know me as well and I did it for a few years it fact it was me who first changed the printers to Blackwells who offered a fantastic design service

Indeed.

Steve, I think the main problem was that the mag was just too damned good. The better something is the more people expect of it.

I still think an annual leaflet, two sheets of A3 folded and stapled in the middle creating a eight paged A4 sized leaflet would suffice. A simple review of the previous year and a preview of the forthcoming year and a few bits and pieces like contact info etc.

Not too complicated, not too expensive, but useful and nice.

Well we had it tuff !

Anyone who had to edit John arfur Dailey or read through wotsisname from slurrey about who he met and how and what tie he was wearing........gets my vote !

I definitley agree with Dale about a one-off per end of year revue and it not being a step down but a step across - it's different, refreshing - a beer you can savour.....sorry, got sidetracked by Heineken and how much we all get overpaid......anyway, it's an evolvement from nothing that we actually get and stop buying everybody a calender - with the membership turnover that Rob quoted we're probably only 50 that paid full dues at £25.....:smash: !

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My idea is that everyone pays a small annual fee (£5?) to register which covers Club overheads. We already have money in the bank to cover 'up-front' costs for organising meets.

We then simplify the whole Membership System so that Registration automatically prompts for payment via card or Paypal. We record the minimum info about people and can scrap the database if poss. (not even car details are held unless that can be input on Registration). Can V Bulletin do this and is this how other Clubs operate? People just get a Membership Card.

Our 'old school' members pay £5 by cheque for their Membership Card and they are the only ones who get reminders by post.

Now think about that - I need to get on with my Bathroom DIY work.

Sorry this is just not viable or financially sound even if you drop the website and forum from the equation you need monies for the membership packs postage membership secs expenses public Liability Insurance to cover for any events that we have no matter how big or small they are all covered trophies etc etc
Mike Feeneys local group charges £7.50 to cover his postage copying and stationary costs so a £5 is a not even an option IMHO

Well i earn nothing, so if you are earning half of that, you have to have more money than i in the end.
It might not have any relevance to you, to me it have a huge relevance, trying to understand why we have to belly pick over 2,5£ a year.
I assume you all can see where i'm hedding at, i just need some more answers i have asked in some previous posts sorted out.

Dale, you have some great ideas, i like them.

Sean, you have done quit some thinking, but it's just to complicated what you suggest.

Make it simple !!..............

Simple is complete access for paying members only - paying members then benefit 100% of what they put in or not - thier choice and nobody else gets a freebie - is THAT what you want ?

I haven't looked at my club magazines in years, they are in the garage with dust on - maybe I should put them up an ebay - except that somebody did that a couple of years aga and was shot down for profiteering......... ! I don't have scale models or fancy pictures (there's nothing in my house - my wife won't allow it) - all my money goes on the real thing and to drive it !
If you earn nothing, you're either super rich or very poor - the fact that you could consume the value of a packet of cigarettes leads me to think it is the former.

If you're so poor, then sell the Z and put some food on your table. Perhaps that shows that I don't know where you're heading - I wish you'd tell us before I get bored.........!

What answers do you want and I'll try to help out.

Skidden - it was a tongue in cheek statement although I'd prefer a tongue in my wifes' cheek...except that she's gone out for the evening and left me with a bottle of red to lick. I have no time or energy to help the z club when it doesn't want to evolve and therefore be helped.
