Classified discussion continue

What do you do Rob - apart from paypal 3 fivers ?

I don't really care if I get anything in return for my money Sean, As long as it helps keep the forum running, This site has been very helpful over the last couple of years for me personally even if I think half the membership are apparently dead from the neck up lol.

You can't even buy a round down the pub for £15 now days mate, it's nothing!

The one thing I do miss is the proper magazine, Though I haven't been a member long enough to of got them first hand I was given about 20 when I bought one of my shells, And I really enjoyed reading them, I just can't get into reading mags online, I guess I'm just to old :(.

tbh I don't see why the classifieds shouldn't be restricted to paying members as one of the benefits you get when you support the club. Even non-members can access the classifieds as it is at the moment.

I'm a mod for a computer enthusiast (ie. geek) website and the classifieds on there can only be accessed by registered members, and sales threads can be posted only after they have a certain number of posts and have been registered a certain amount of time. This encourages more people to join up and be part of the community and helps keep scammers away.

As for who got there first -- maybe it should just be made part of the section rules that interest is posted in the thread rather than via PM; afterall, who's going to know you already called dibs if it's in a PM that only the seller can read?

The reason the classifieds section is currently open to all is that it can benefit the members from both buyer and seller perspectives. Members benefit from having more parts available (why would somebody pay £15 to advertise, say, just one part for £10). They also benefit from a selling point of view, since anything they want to advertise has a greater audience.

The problem comes when people take the p1$$ and just use the site as an advertising platform, or get access to lots of parts thanks to the classifieds portal without putting anything in towards its use (apologies if thats difficult to understand).

IMO the best way to tackle this area would be to put a limit on the number of sales a non-member can make before they have to pay up. Or how about a flat £2 fee added for each sale to/from non-members?

One other point is that from the list of benefits the overseas members cannot take advantage of, not ONE of them costs anything for the club to provide! Ok perhaps the membership card but that is very little. The forum software, the hosting, the webspace taken up by the classifieds section - THAT is what costs the club money. So no, you are not paying for something you're not getting, you're just not in a position to take advantage of some of the other perks that come with being a paid up member :)

Agreed! Also, if you have web talents and you are willing to contribute, our web techs may appreciate some help with site development.

Lessen learned, as previous stated, i will at least comment that a PM have been send.

Don't try to force PPL to be members, make them feel at home and they will be a part of the community, if people try to force me to something, i go in to Sean mode and get obstinatic.:D

I tried to get someone to mention how much and how often the membership fee have to be paid, no answers so far, so let me ask again.

How often do all you UK members have to renew your membership and pay those 15 quid ??...........

Then why the heck do you use this as a argument then?, please spend 20 seconds reading this ZClub.net - Join the club benefits and discounts, now please explain this in a plain English a Dane will understand.

You tell people to be paid up members and get some benefits, now after telling that there is not many of the benefis i can take advantage of, i get told that they come free for the club and that's not what a member pay for with a membership, is that right.:nopity:

I'm glad others decited to chimed in, keep the comments comming:)

The discounts come thanks to the work of the committee negotiating deals with companies/organisations for the members of the club. As Sean stated earlier, a lot of these companies will ask to see proof of membership. If we were to send out a membership pack to every person who simply registered on the site how would that be paid for?

The real point I was making was that the benefits that you CAN take advantage of are the ones that actually cost the club real money, not just time dedicated to the club by its committee and members.

I hope that clears things up? Nobody is forcing anyone to pay to be a full member.

Cheers,

Andy

The club isn't here to make money, it's here as a means of creating and sustaining a community so that people with a common interest can benefit from each others knowledge and friendship.

You're welcome, as everyone else is, to be part of that community if you wish, without paying any money. The annual membership fee (or small donation to the running costs, as I see it) is of course voluntary.

If you decide not to pay the membership fee, don't worry, the club will continue. It won't however, if everyone decides not to pay.

Exactly Rob and sorry for having baited you to spit it out !

Hey shandy - I'm not cool but if wasn't a subscribed member, I'd definietly make a donation without going on about what financial return I was getting.

Ian......"and if by magic, the shopkeeper appeared ! Mr Ben asked if he could try something on - of course sir" Go away and creep back under that stone - water under the bridge so don't start !:p

well put Dale !!!!!!
i pay my membership because if nobody did then there would be no Zclub.net !!!!.
the website and arranging of events cost money to organise for the benefit of members and non-members and this sometime means that the Zclub has to charge people for the privaleged.
not all the people that are paid up members take advantage of the benefits that are available like reduced ticket prices for events etc but being a paid up member does not mean that you have first dibs on any items for sale ,its first come ,first served , and if the seller wants to sell to you.
there has been some items that i would like but Sean got there first ,thats just how it is

Ok....boot sale - what do you guys want ?

As a seller I can state what I like so rich members first and then on a sliding scale.............

Firstly reading through this has made me feel guilty so I'll now be paying the subscription! woohooo

Secondly as someone fairly new and from an outside point of view, I think you should allow all members to view classifieds ads, BUT disable their ability to reply to classifieds or private message the seller, so the apple is there for the taking, but to take a bite they need to subscribe.

Ok this might be a silly question..........I'm a member of another car forum here in Ireland, its very well run and has probably 5 or 6 times the traffic of the zclub, yet there is no member fee, infact this is the only club ive come across where you have to pay to join, why is that?

Who pays for the hosting of that site and do they have meetings no matter how small and are they covered by public liability insurance do as a member of there do you get a members pack

Maybe they cover the cost by having traders on board but to charge traders to completely cover the costs the site has to be really busy and with loads of opportunity to make it worth their while
If it is a multi marque forum it is easier to get sponsors ie traders a you can have a load of traders dealing with various makes
