What did you do to your Z this week?

Got rid of some overspray - probably about 20 years old, on the inside of the hatch lid, but went through the (factory) paint on a little bit ... can’t be seen. Still recolouring the interior. Tunnel vinyl and wheel arches now in. I split a little bit of the vinyl on one arch which hacked me off big time, doing it too late and when I was tired. Didn’t take enough time over it, but you can hardly see it. This stuff is 50 years old, I must remember.

I have also refurbed the steering wheel. I’m not bothering to redo the black as it’s still pretty good for the original paint. So I did a bit of research and got some satin varnish which I thinned down quite a bit before brushing on, building up the coats slowly at present.

I modified the wiring of my wbo2 sensor so the heater element goes through a spare switch on my dash. I'll be able to wait until the exhaust has heated up enough to get rid of the condensation before turning the sensor's heater on.
Hopefully the next sensor will last longer than 6 months!

20200531_153923.jpg 20200531_154050.jpg I've been 'reworking' my dashboard to facilitate my wiring and heating modifications. There's a lot to explain and the reasons behind the location of switches and future heater controls, vent etc but I'm quite pleased with how my centre dash section has turned out and my 'tripmeter' fitting in the glovebox lid. Don't worry no good Datsun part was 'hurt' in the making of this. I had a spare damaged glovebox lid and Robbie J supplied a rough centre section for me to experiment with. Note I've also fitted a 260Z fusebox (more fuses, thicker cables).

Very nice!

So this is where everything had been leading to...

I finally managed to work on a couple of my cars for the first time in almost 4 months.
After being at work in Trinidad, I managed to get out on one of the last flights then got stuck in Barbados for a couple of days.
Got to Heathrow and was denied boarding to Sofia so spent 8 weeks stuck in the UK until I managed to blag my way onto a flight to Bulgaria, where I had a 2 week quarantine followed by a week with the family.

So, I went to change out the engine bay fuel hoses on my second 280Z, which will be my daily driver until I get the rest of my cars out of Cyprus.
I opened the bonnet and found that there may have been, or still be, a stowaway!

The shed skin is about 1 metre long and made the hose change out a bit longer than anticipated after carefully checking the nooks and crannies!
