What did you do to your Z this week?

Had a session sorting the front arches and test fitting the repro fender mirrors. Arches are temporarily fitted - will sort the rivnuts further down the line.

Some time since my last post here, time just doesn't seem to go far these days!.. Been lurking though..

Managed to get time Sunday to clay, polish, wax and glaze the Z. I've been using Auto Finesse Ultra Glaze for some time and it never disappoints. Doesn't last long, a week or so, but easy to apply and gives that little extra bling when you want it..

Went for 3hr drive.. Lovely.. Since the throttle work (ie now fully open) I still get a buzz from how she's running.

Haven't done it yet but been day dreaming on the commute on a design for a pusher fan on he front of my radiator that will work with a PWM driver to vary cooling and noise with temps. On ignition off, a timer relay will keep it on for 5 mins and it will switch polarity to become a puller to suck the heat out of the engine bay, reducing heat soak. Write up to follow when / if I do it over winter.

Oh and got 123 dizzy into the car and working - more to follow!

Other than the fun in making it, what will you actually gain from that? Over a certain temp I agree the fan should run for a while but once it’s off it would surely pulling the air out of the engine bay doesn’t actually achieve anything useful?
It would be more circuitry and a bigger drain on the battery but that’s about it?
(Says the man programming a 0-60 timer into my speedo with no real value to my life)

Well my gadgety friend, you need to experience the heat soak and fuel vaporisation experience offered by L6 engines with headers. With my new dizzy I now have a temp sensor and can tell you under bonnet temps get well into the 70s degrees. (A great case for cold air induction, but I still need to monitor this in different conditions to know what the variation is at speed).

Without airflow, the heat soak causes fuel vaporisation + not great for anything rubber. I often have the embarrassing kangarooing out of petrol stations until I've got some speed up to cool the engine bay!

As you know with your electronics experience, for heat removal from confined spaces, you are always better off with negative pressure. And in this instance pushing hot radiator air across a hot block is not as effective as sucking hot air out. With engine off, the water flow is convection based - so sucking hot air through the radiator will not noticeably reduce any cooling from it just sitting there.

All in theory of course. ;)

I used to remove the inspection flaps on hot track days.

The kangarooing Ali may be hot 'frothy' fuel in the carbs I think. When on trackdays I often had to wait to be 'let free' on track and then when I was the car would hesitate for a while until cold fuel entered the float chambers. I can't imagine air temp having such a 'on/off' consequence.

Nice one Rob, any longer clips?

Quite a lot going on in past and next few days. Laid out all the parts of Addison's 260, bought an engine crane, engine stand, hydraulic wheel jacks and long reach trolley jack from SGS which should arrive tomorrow. Arranged for the engine to be delivered for a check over and will go form there. Storage of my 260 is in the process of being organised to create space in the garage for Addison's project.

Off to see RIDDLER (the previous owner of my Z) this Sunday with my/his Z... I always think of it that way, he's as much of the Z as I am. I'm sure he'll enjoy the improvements I've made. Really looking forward to meeting up, plus seeing his latest acquisition, a Volvo P1800.

Still working out plan of action with Addison's 260. Documenting everything as it is atm. Once done, we'll start a thread.

Yeh just go to 'Tetleysdad'.

Your car will be a beauty when you've finished it and it was a great idea for you both to get to know Zs more without having to weld etc

Great work Jon, let us know how that works out with road noise or vibration etc. I might like to do this to mine.
What year and model landcover??

I'm still waiting to get all the larger parts of my suspension (that won't fit in my oven) back from the powder coating.
So I tidied up the fuel system a bit and started swapping out the brake lines.

I like the look of those hard fuel line clamps, where are they from please?

They are the original clamps that have been media blasted then coated with chrome powder.
My powder coat gun is one of the best tools I've bought!
Unfortunately, my oven is only slightly bigger than a large microwave so I'm limited to what I can coat.
I have done just about every bracket on the car though!
