What did you do to your Z this week?

So after 5 years of ownership and countless car covers, the zed finally has a inside home and no longer must sit out in the hot and cold weather. After 8 years of renting, finally moved into our new home that we started over a year ago on a piece of graph paper. What a experience but very happy it is over, except for landscape etc. And a 3 car garage so I have room to grow the zed family. LOL

I find that car my covers let water through. Find it really annoying - they are supposed to be waterproof. Did you find the same? I would love to have a garage like this! Your Z will be very happy!

Over the years i have had several 'high quality' supposedly waterproof and breathable covers, and at first, yes they are, but they seem to deteriorate quite quickly though when used permanently outside in all weathers, within two years i would say they should probably be replaced! not very cost effective then.

The last two covers ive used are relatively cheap ones from Halfords, and while they are not as good to begin with, nor 100% waterproof, they do appear to maintain that level of cover for much longer than the more expensive ones IMO

If you want 100% waterproof 100% of the time........ that'll be a garage mate!

Currently jet lagged in Cape Cod, Massachusetts, but the first piece of Z hand luggage has arrived at my brother & sister-in-law’s house for me. JDM as always. Bigger stuff on the way...

Congrats Mike, we need to see a pic of the house and three-car garage just to make the envy complete ... what is cold in Sacramento - about 70C?
Yes Mike, it can get down to 4C or even to 0C if Alaska blows down on us. I realize I have nothing to complain about although the 26 active fires in the western states currently has our air quality in the un-healthy range.
Few pics of the house and view of the Sacramento Valley smoke from nearby wild land fires.

Wow. That wonderful house. Wow. That wonderfulJDM horn push ... yummy to both!

Great view Mike - although the fires are not good obviously - hope they manage to sort that out soon.

While parts are shipping from various US locations to me in Cape Cod, I made a very local Z acquisition just 5 mins down the road... $1 each at Stop & Shop!

This weekend I found one of my carb throttle spindles was a bit twisted - cylinder one plate was leading the others by maybe 0.3mm. It must have been like that for years. I untwisted it today. Didn't make a lot of difference to overall airflow but made quite a difference over the progression holes.

Strictly speaking last week but after a couple of scary night moments with my candle headlights that I haven't had a chance to relay yet, I decided to try the "illegal" LED bulbs.

Incredible difference at night - frankly transformed my night driving experience and of the 50-60 cars I passed none flashed me, so I take that as them not causing glare or being too bright. They are a "mere" 3000 lumens each.

Spot the difference in daylight!!

Ps. Spotted one of these at the station ....

I need all the light I can get at night and what a difference even in the daytime. And easy on the alternator as well.
Love that little Opel by the way, way cool.

This weekend I discovered that my alternator is producing 15.5 Volts, so I've now parked it up and currently looking for a solution. Anyway It's last weekend I would like to discuss as my car took a massive leap forward in terms of being road worthy. I'm nearing the completion of my 260z 2+2 restoration and decided that I should drive it locally, shake it down and find out what needs to be addressed before driving it seriously. Apart from a long brake pedal and grinding 2nd gear on the down-change it became apparent that the engine wasn't running at all well, which to be fair was expected because I have made a few performance mods along the way. I have 123 distributor, so I was fairly happy with the ignition side of things but those triple Dellorto's gave some head scratching moments. Although the car was idling nicely and revving freely without load, driving it was awful, needing to feather throttle to prevent stalling until the primary circuit was active. Following advice from this forum, I checked my pump jets and found the squirt of fuel to be a bit hit and miss, some strong and some weak or inactive, so purchased new ones (40's) which did improve things but still a fairly embarrassing drive. Now a big thank you to JonBills because we got discussing the set up of Dellorto's on this forum and he he very kindly came out to see me in his lovely 260z last Sunday, armed with a collection of jets, emulsion tubes and a wealth of all knowledge. First thing was timing .... my mistake but it wasn't set up properly and then afterwards we made many adjustments and test runs, which to cut a long story short turned a rather embarrassing drive into something very different. Although there are still some adjustments needed, my car is now running very nicely and rev range can be explored much easier than before. Thank you very much JonBills, I very much enjoyed the afternoon and really appreciate your help and the results it yielded.

Now home with horrendous jet lag due to messed up return journey from the US (34 hours without sleep), managed to marry the new JDM horn pad to Project Dixie’s restored steering wheel and put it in its temporary home, my FairladyZ, where it will stay until Dixie is ready for it. Very happy with the outcome. The FairladyZ will ultimately get one of the Compe steering wheel replicas when this gets moved over, although I like the standard wheel feel so much, I could imagine having the same in both.
