More Ebay Resto's

If you take the '70 car and use the RHD conversion bits to make it a solid RHD '70 car then I don't see any problem. Would you really want to try and make a '70 240z look like a '73 uk car? Why? You seam to all be assuming ringing would be the logical thing to do with these cars. I don't see that as the case. Everyone wants a solid shell and the best place to get one is the dry states of the US. Most want RHD so convert it with the donor car. DVLA with give you a '70 plate. You would only ring it if it had no ID.

Yes, but 7 and a half grand just for a rhd conversion kit and a load of leftovers and you still end up with a knackered car that needs a lot of work :)

[EDIT] oh wait, I got the descriptions the wrong way around! That could be a good way to get a nice RHD early car, but it's still fairly pricey as a starting point...

Not so sure John ..... but i'm probably wrong

I think dvla want lots of bits of paper like the import certificate duty paid , and or an original log book I didn't see the seller mention this on the Left hand drive car and it has been here for 20 years

I was highlighting keeping the v5 for future use Sean, not exactly Ethical?

If so then there are a LOT of people around driving cars that have exactly the same treatment and Datsun is by far not the only make to have applied the same ethics - 911s spring immediately to mind......

If you were a potential owner, and bought what you thought was a 1970 car, which happened to be a 1973 would you be happy? Or what you thought was a 1973 car based on the id but was a 1970 body would you be happy?.

Assuming we're talking about 240z shells with the differences explained by Richie, I said I wouldn't be happy.

If the difference was just the number of spot welds, I said I would be happy.

Still cant understand all this convert to RHD ? , I would just leave it as made by Nissan in the factory and sell the RHD car for spares or break it, you should be able to get some decent cash back judging by some of the cars/bits that have been selling on eBay,

EDIT - its already been taken down/sold this morning , wonder if it will turn up as a RHD '73

They were never going to last long before someone snapped them up, debates about price and the other stuff aside.

Someone may have got themselves a good way to convert a LHD car and make some cash back from parting out the leftovers. It'll be interesting to see if they surface again.

New owner

Ok I am going to put my hand up I ended up buying the pair.
I have no intension of using the 73 id on the mk1 instead will register the car once restored on a age related plate.
I will however be using the 73 to convert her to rhd .
Spent today stripping the mk1 down to a bare shell .have to say how nice it was that every thing came apart with easy and so nice not to be faced with crumbling rust when removing wings etc.
Still on a learning curve regarding z's

Welcome Fairlineguy, glad you've let us into your secret and updated the Thread.

Good luck with the restoration, by the end of it you'll know a lot more about Zs..

Are you going to Castle Combe this weekend?
