Has anyone refurbished the seat sliders? I want to take them apart clean up and re grease but can’t figure out how to take them apart. Or for that matter if it’s even possible?

I have redone mine with grease (not copious amounts) but didn't take them apart- it'd be a real faff I reckon. Just get the old grease out, and regrease. A headache best avoided I think.

how did you do it Mike?

It’s a bit complicated and I didn’t do it EXTRA;). It involved making a special tool to get things started, then a pair of large footprints to turn the insert out. You can see the damage at the top. Should attempt the second strut this week and if it goes the same way I’ll get pictures.

Strange thing between the insert and the strut leg there seems to be metal putty, only way to describe it. Think this made the whole process very difficult and it absolutely stinks.

Oh damn.

Sad to see that :( I hope the pistons are ok
yes, thanks Peter, only the cam has real damage. I thought I'd have it running again today, but my guess at lash pad size for my spare cam was well off, so I'll be waiting another week now.

Glad to hear, or rather glad considering alternative outcomes...

So what do you do, will you need to change the cam? Can it be saved?

So this is how my Dad did it.

So you will remember this.

The ferrule stuck in the end looked like this when removed.

So my Dad made this

That fit in like this.

Which was held in place like this

And was turned out with one of these, oh and few swift blows with the club hammer to get it going. The picture above and below are of the second strut that came apart a lot easier. In fact it looks to have been replace at some point but they probably gave up on the drivers side and didn't bother.

So anyway that's how he got the insert moving and the ferrule out on the drivers side. As I say the passenger side was so much easier.

I've just been speaking to Kent Cams, and the old cam is dead. luckily I have a spare they ground for me a year ago.
unfortunately it doesn't fit my lashpads, so I need some more.

Spent all week fixing electrical gremlins, tracked down to a broken wire to the ignition module. To give the car a good test, joined Farmer42 (Paul) for a blast around the Mendips on Sunday in the late summer sunshine. Wound down Chedder Gorge and back up again, place was absolutely packed with people. Along the A368 past Blagdon Lake and finishing up for a few photos at Chew Valley Lake. It was absolutely fantastic to get the ZX out for a run and it didn't miss a beat. Loved chucking the car around the Mendip backroads. :driving:

A couple of photos to prove we kept the social distancing rules
