TML 280S - Have you seen it?

The club has been contacted by someone who's car is 'AWOL' - potentially moved house with the storage owner with whom they have now lost contact.

DVLA has it down as un-MOT'd / SORN'd so unlikely to be running about.

So they had it in storage - and the storage owner moved house ?

The thought of a car going AWOL is slightly mystifying .

I lose my keys 35 times a day - but not the whole car - yet

Basically - have exhausted all methods of finding out his contact details too.

Crazy

Surely a tricky car to steal really. It'll show up at some point you'd think, and then likely places like this site will notice it. Does he have the VIN?

Easy to sell parts
Good point.

On a side point, if you were the guy that's taken the car though, would you assume that the owner has lost all your contacts and will never find you again? I certainly wouldn't. Probably more likely that he's also lost the owner's contacts. How long has it been?

@Mr Tenno does he have a name at least? At this point I would go to the police and register it stolen. Police (if they can be bothered) should easily be able to find a person that has recently moved house. Estate agents will know who sold that house and their name.. but then there's GDPR.

Although as I discovered with a credit card fraud incident that if the Police were to ask the third party will divulge the info required. As you say, it’s a question of if the Police have the time / resources for it. It maybe worth doing the leg work for the Police and submitting all the details of the agent / who to contact etc on the Police report to make it easy for them to action.

So, basically stolen?

It's fuzzy, see below

Believe it or not, they haven't seen the car in over 5 years and the storage arrangements were all made in person.

I was actually using 'moving house' as shorthand for 'was under-the-table renting space in a farm barn and had to take the cars elsewhere because the farm owner died'. They are still paying for storage in theory (by standing order) so the storage person may not have realised they can't contact him.

That makes a bit more sense now :) But wow.. no name taken. That's going to make it tricky :/

If they are still paying the storage person by standing order for the storage surely they have the name of the person who's account it is going in to? Unless the person they are paying is off-grid, a bit of time on google would probably turn up a few leads. I would suggest that the person who is storing is simply unaware of the owner being able to contact them although on the other hand 5 years is quite some time to have not had contact. I very much doubt the police would want to get involved as there is no proof of theft and it appears the vehicle is not insured either.

The one concerning thing is the date of the last V5C issue, unless this is the owner changing something and requesting a new V5 (house move maybe?).

Date of last V5C (logbook) issued 28 July 2022.

I hope the owner is re-united with their car though, it must be out there.

This was done by the owner.

So for clarity:
The Datsun owner found someone to let him share barn space that he was renting. The barn space was no longer available, the renter didn't know how to contact the Datsun owner so he moved the car with his own stuff. So the two need to 'find' each other.

How did the Datsun owner know the car had moved - I'm assuming they went along to the barn 'out of the blue' to see it?
