Hi all-I’ve just joined.
I’ve recently bought this 1974 260Z.
Had a thorough service a month or so ago and no major issues found.
I’ll be changing the seats, having a retro stereo fitted and have 2 tiny dents knocked out.
Other than that I’m just looking forward to driving the car I’ve wanted since I was kid!

Welcome to the site and club!

We've been waiting for the car's owner to surface since it went up for sale in 2021 😁

Beautiful car that, congratulations! Was for sale not far from me up in north Lancashire I believe? Is one of the dents from someone shutting the bonnet when there was a tool under it or something?

Thanks.
Yep someone closed the bonnet an a spanner I think!!
I’m just enjoying driving it tbh.
Will keep on top of the work needed e.g a few small rust patches ,Getting the door lock sorted on the passenger door etc.

Hopefully I can get it to a few events this summer and meet some members and get some advise.

Hey congrats and welcome to the club!! Another fellow 260 owner.

Just looking at the photos that looks like a very well sorted car with some interesting details like, the rad, 280zx dizzy, flamethrower coil, that heat sink and what looks like 2” SUs. @Rob Gaskin - you know about those, are my eyes deceiving me!?

Looks like someone with a performance focus owned the car before. Happy driving.

Ps. If those are Michelin Energy Saver van tyres I would change them. I had those and fell off the road when it rained on an otherwise dry run. I can’t recommend highly enough the Bridgestone Turanza T05 in that stock size, although I think they may have stopped making them in 14” since I bought mine.

Thought so! I actually went to see it ;) Owner took me out for a spin and it went well and sounded great.

Was out of my budget in the end, but looked like a really solid car and just needed a few little jobs to be perfect like you say.

Enjoy!

Yes, they do look like 2". The important thing is to make sure that the manifold has been 'opened up' to match. I THINK that 2" carbs work well on 2.8 modified engines that are being revved to the max. They worked well on my trackday car (7,000 rpm) however the 1 3/4 on my 2.8 rally car worked fine but that had a milder cam. I doubt they are worth fitting to a 2.4 or 2.6 fairly standard engine though but the good thing about SU's is that they are a variable venturi so compensate automatically depending on load so they are not 2" all the time.

I’m wondering with all the other tell tale signs if that head has been shown love at some point. I wouldn’t discount a warmer than stock cam and other bits in there.

So here’s the thing, I only realised my supposedly stock L26 had a shaved head and huge lots of port and polish after I pulled the head off the car. These cars all have a little history ;)

That's a nice little surprise! I bet the only surprises my 280z is hiding are unpleasant ones 😂

That’s why you gotta celebrate the wins and enjoy them when they’re running well as yours sounds like it is!

That’s a lovely looking car - seems like you found a good ‘un there.

Looking forward to seeing her in the flesh and meeting you.

So, any thoughts on any improvements / next projects on the car? Or is it just a case of it ain’t broke, enjoy it, drive it, get to know her better?

Do you mean me and my battered old 280?! Or the OP's shiny green 260?

Nice car, enjoy it. If it drives as nice as my 260Z did when I was driving it stock then it should be a great car to own.

Congratulations, nice looking car! This was up for sale around the same time I bought mine and looks remarkably similar to mine! Looking forward to seeing them side-by-side!
