Thoughts on power to weight ratios:
I was speaking to a chap with a turbo'd beetle in the fireup lane. He'd run 12.5 already and I understand he improved that to 11.9 by the end of the day. "That's pretty damn impressive," I said, "how much does your car weigh?"
"With me in it, 1,930 pounds" he replied.
"And how much power have you got?" I asked.
"150 brake at the wheels" he said. (I understand he's got a 2.3 underneath the turbo, as well as having his engine right above the wheels which helps!).
I asked Mike what my 260 weighs, and without a driver it's about 2,600-2,700 pounds. I add another 200 to that when get on board. So, circa 2,800-2,900 pounds all in. That means that the beetle guy has the best part of a 1,000 pound advantage. It would need a fair amount of horsepower to overcome that !
This reinforces PMac's point. If you want the easy route to a good ET at the Pod, just find the lightest car you can (Nova, Corsa, Fiesta, whatever) and squeeze in a two litre turbo lump. Hey presto instant decent ET's!
I takes a bit more work for us with our older and heavier motors to get there, but it's great fun!
