Drag Race Challenge 2005 - Provisional dates

SKiddell Mind you he also said that if you ever hit the speed of light then you would have an infinite mass (bout right for a Z32 then)
This of course is the correct theory to explain my Z32s greater weight/mass.
Its heavier that that cranky blue 240z of yours cos its faster. :D

.... he proposes that if you were travelling close to the speed of light and were to look at a 240z catching up with you (travelling at the speed of light) then it would be appear blue shifted in the light spectrum,

Items appearing in my mirror appear blue cos they are blue. Items appearing in my mirror are BEHIND me, cos they are LOSING!
"catching up....."? In your dreams Skiddell. :D

Mike,

I wouldnt mind coming and having a go, how much is it all going to cost?

What should i expect? How many goes do you get? Will it be full of ricers?

Can I say a provisional yes, will no for definite if i can come or not nearer the time.

Any tips on launching? :D Never done this before ...

How I wish I was a year down line !!!!! Blue, red, sky blue pink...... no matter......you will be looking at the carbon fibre tail panel on a very very orange 240............ once it is built all I have to do is learn to drive the thing and launch it correctly to stop doing donuts and looking like a plank :D

£10 on the gate to get in.
£15 to sign on and run. BRING DRIVING LICENCE.
How many goes do you get
Depend how many peeps turn up
Will it be full of ricers?
By definition the ENTIRE Z club drive ricers! But nobody knows wot else will be there till its there!
Any tips on launching? Never done this before
Mr F will be in charge. LISTEN AND OBEY. Ya got that!

Being there is the important thing in the first instance. Being there doesn't mean you have to run your car, but pressure will be brought to bear. Watch, observe, learn, discuss, do it.....you might even enjoy it. You will certainly learn something about yourself and your car and what the reality of owning a "fast" car is all about - you thought your Z was quick? Then why is that little hatchback all the way down that track ahead of you...?

Oh yes. you will never make another silly remark about "Saxo Man" or "Nova Man" again when you see the quick ones in action. Respect I say.

Errrr, well kind of. Local guy to me (nice chap) has a convertable Astra runs 13's with a 2ltr turbo. Immaculate it is, a credit to him. 200+ bhp in a weak roof-less shell powering the front wheels...........

.....................just don't mention corners :D

Heres the millon dollar question,Will i make it to santa pod, well theres only one person that can answer that! your comments please Mr F :D (please say yes)

Will 100% be there on the 13th, I just very much doubt my Z will :(

Roll on the very low 13's/Very high 12's if i am :D:D

(watch me go and make a fool of myself now with a 15 summit)

Rich

Well lets just have a summary then.....
Its Sunday Mar 13 at Santa Pod Raceway near Wellingborough, Northants.
If you want to come and watch then £10 a head it is . First runs are around 9.30 am(weather permitting) but just turn up when you want.
If you want to run then I suggest getting there around 9.00am WITH YOUR DRIVING LICENCE so you can get signed on (£15) to run. Number of runs depends on number of cars running and of course the weather. When we went last month with 300ZX co uk we started at 9,30 prompt and you could get a run in every 20 mins or so. I did 6/7 and called it a day.
On a serious side MrF is extremely knowledgable and will pass on tips etc. There will be others too like TonyC who can help if you ask.
The majority of the Santa Pod staff are helpfull too.
We dont know how many people will run in Zeds but I expect to be there and my new found rival SteveJ is going to be there also..
For your info we both own and run std Z32 non turbo SWB cars.(both red slick tops) The only difference is mine is manwell and Steves is auto.
Both drivers are in the "mature category"!! and we will probably run "head to head " if possible.
Times last month were very close.... Me 15.94.... Steve 16.00. Then steve lent his car to CHUNk who ran a 15.90! Expect to see more close but light hearted racing like this!
The best I could manage last season in my Z31 turbo was a 16.27. So as Mr F says its all quite close.
If the track is good then we can expect to see the TT brigade reeling off low 13 sec times.
All in road going cars!!
Dress warm if you are coming. Its a big wide open place with wickedly cold winds!!!!

PMAC- Thanks for answering my questions earlier an Mr.F your PM box is full to the brim.

Tony forgive me for being so niave :) but can you or someone else explain, as I've heard it said before, why might a clutch/gearbox/drivetrain not survive a drag race experience?
Is it due to the strain in revving the car hard before you clutch up and launch?
Would like to ensure i dont do any damage to my pride and joy.

You dont need to rev any car very much at the Pod. 2500 revs for launch is about it.
The track is very very smooth and not at all like normal road surface. So potential for damage to clutch is low. MrF has said it before and ill just repeat it . If your car is in sound condition before you arrive it will be the same when you leave. However if you turn up with a worn clutch or a dodgy release bearing etc then Santa Pod will accelerate the process of expiry of that component.
Most damage is done to "egos and pride"
Did you here the one about the guy who turned up in a turbo , but the turbo wasnt working?

Oh Damn! I forgot it was me!!

No I never heard that one, tell me more about this guy..?? WHo was he? Anyone we know?

Well thanks for that PMAC, I see what you mean.. Should be good fun by the sound of it...

Don't worry it will - Tony's just being a girl.

He may have a point once the NoS goes on though

Being a girl????

*sound of gnashing of teeth*

Right-o matey, it's a grudge match now!!!

Actually, it's my clutch concerns me (oooo-er matron). My launch has to be at about 3200-3400 rpm. Too few and she'll bog down, too many and she'll spin like a maniac. Also, I don't let the clutch up too hard to avoid shocking the transmission (gbox/diff/UJ's etc) so I tend to slip it a fraction, which wears it out faster. Stank like a b*st*rd last time!!!!

Car is going to tuners on Monday, so hopefully will be running nicely next weekend.

Tony
