Deano - they do have their own class; it's called Super Modified. The only difference is that it also includes the extremes of L-series engine modification. I assume you are suggesting:

1. L-series Super Modified
2. VG30 / VQ35 Super Modified
3. All other engine Super Modified, e.g. Chevy, Toyota, Skyline, VQ45, Jag V12, Cosworth, ex-Schumacher F1 cast-offs etc.

Or, do you let S-M but original engine type fall back into Modified in each case and p**s off any Clubman Modified cars already there? I don't think there are enough S-M cars yet to merit further sub-division, but we could consider it again for next year in light of developments this year.

And I take it you would like:

4. Bench Racer S-M, aka Fantasy Drag or Top Trumps Drag class? Do you still have to bring the car to a meeting or would sending in a picture with specification on the back be considered sufficient?

Perhaps this site should have a "Hall of Fame" for fastest cars. Those cars do need some recongnition as the Z Club DC trophy is based on points over the season.

We could get more detailed here for individual models eg -

Fastest 240Z Turbo - Dean B
Fastest 240Z hybrid - Dean B
Fastest 260Z stock - Paul E ;)
Fastest 260Z N/A - Rob H

etc....

New trophy required for this large and varied class which has cars scattered all around the country... The BS Trophy....
Just post spec on the forum.... and complete the statement..." I reckon my car must be good for at least a xx.yy quarter".

My "imaginery Zed" will run a 10sec flat. That is running with only 1 of its 12 cylinders though so expect more next time.

My non-BS RatZ ran 9.30s normally aspirated and 8.46 on nitrous - your BS spec cars had better be able to stand proud alongside this!

My fantasy Pro-Mod style 350Z door-slammer will be capable of breaking into the six second bracket with triple stage nitrous. Come on - what ya got?

Oh but you're talking about 1/4 miles, I was doing a whole mile! My 60ft isn't readable even by Santa pods 1/1000 accurate gear and I run out of gearing at 400mph so I think I could go sub 10 if the tyres didn't blow up. Only running standard 165/65/15s at the moment.

Mike is it feasible to get a car (S30) into the 10s that still goes round corners (trackdays) or can be used on the road? Something that isn't pure straight line. SBC style. I have a friend who can make me composite (CF) panels so hopefully some serious weight reduction is feasible BUT I wouldn't want to tub the rear with fat slicks or anything... not that I own a bloody Z, soon though! 61 days of uni and counting.

I may have a ride down with my son but only to spectate..The weather forecast isn't brilliant at this time, reading between the lines, if it's wet is there no racing?
I've got a vague idea but can anyone tell me where S Pod is? What time to be there? Is there an entry fee for lookers? any other info?

Hi Derek,

yes, if its wet theres no racing, but they do attempt to dry the track when it isnt raining!!

For directions have a look at http://www.santapod.co.uk/g_find.php

Racing usually starts at 9.30am, sign on from 9am.

Entry is £10 for adults, children under 16 are free

Wrap up warm as its always 5 degrees colder at the pod!! LOL

Possible, but drag launch requirements and strength of axle required will probably mean a unit that will compromise track handling. The ideal person to talk to would be Geoff Hauser who built and installed the RatZ rear end - he is a great chassis engineer, so if it is possible, he will have a design that can be implemented.
The power to push a SBC engined S30 shell into the 10s is relatively straightforward (assuming you can afford it). Applying the power to the track reliably is another matter.
My old SBC 240Z ran back to back mid-10s with a moderate engine and a simple plate nitrous kit. The car was still perfectly streetable and regularly used by its next owner to terrorise all sorts of machinery in street races - it handled OK, but needed some respect on country roads! That had a F**d 9" solid axle with LSD, 4-link rods, coil-over shocks, huge drum brakes(!) and Strange axle shafts - it was set up to be able to run slicks at the strip and then drive home on street tyres. It was never going to be a Lotus, but it wasn't a death trap.

Awesome thanks for that! Sounds like a recipe for breaking things trying to find the balance then :) I guess it's about getting the best compromise to suit what I want.

The chassis engineering, the drivetrain, the way all this hangs together is really very interesting to me so I hope to have a fun 10 years ahead of me on it :)

Not a Lotus fan anyway ;) As always thanks for the information!

Regret cannot attend Sunday as family off to Wales and I don't fancy driving home from the Pod only to go straight back out again and back onto the M25/M4!

So, sorry, but someone else can have the honour of being club red-lighter this month :D

Hope you all have a good day.
