Drag Race Challenge 2005 - Provisional dates
Errrr......that might be me. I definately want to have a go this year - haven't got a clue as to how quick mine is. 240Z with N42 and triple webers. Lowered ride height and 17 inch wheels running on 235's. Seems a bit sluggish on take off but much better over 4000 revs! Question - over this distance, would it make much difference to run with a electric type fuel pump or will standard pump suffice? Also, would it help to have the carb needles adjusted?

I'll also look forward to meeting other Z's (and their owners).

What block are you using 2.4 2.6 or 2.8 ?

Triples webers, dellorto's etc use a fixed jet system rather than a progressive needle jet so there is no concept of adjusting needles.

Setting triples up isn’t for the feint hearted and best done on a rolling road where a different selection of main, air and idle jets can be played with (not forgetting emulsion tubes etc) don’t forget with triples everything is times 6

I would definitely use an electric pump over the mechanical, the fuel flow will be far more consistent and if you use the facet red top etc, it will easily deliver enough for all but the maddest of engines (dont buy the square facet solid state one, it isnt up to the job)

2.8

My only concern is that moving off from standstill I get some 'popping' from the exhaust and a stutter in the acceleration - can't be good for standing start times - but once it gets to 3500 revs it all smooths out.

Ive got to retract that statement now!!! :(
Skiddell has just bribed MrF to allow his T****** B*****!
And now your coming too(I hope)

Good job Ive b******D off into stock Z32 NA. Hopefully no one else will enter this class , allowing me to scoop the HUGE trophy up! :p

Red :Z32: are faster :D
Looks like you may be right! - I'll be looking for more great tips like that on the day! The only practice that I've had previously is on the PS2!

I hope to make at least the first two dates (as long as the car stays in one piece)!
For newcomers such as myself, what's the best time to arrive and what/when/how do you all meet up?

Cheers

Zappy to have a 240Z

First thing is to log on to the Santa pod web site. All the info re runs, location , accomodation nearby is there.
speaking collectively "we get there around 9.00 ish" Bit earlier if we know it will be a busy day.
When you get there just look for a tall bearded God like figure usually located near an Azure Blue 350Z. This of course is Mr F. A veritable legend of Z club drag racing!
Failing visual contact with the aforementioned then look for a noisy loud mouthed rabble of people! that will be me and some of the others!
Seek council from Mr F and OBEY. Ye shall go forth and drag race!!!

BTW newbies always buy the coffee first off!!!
No coffee= No help! you got that !!!!!

Good job Ive b******D off into stock Z32 NA. Hopefully no one else will enter this class , allowing me to scoop the HUGE trophy up! :p
For Sale - 1 x NA SWB Z32 Slick top, currently modified, but all parts available to convert back to stock, no-one will ever know you kept the ally flywheel in and peeled the sticker off the upgraded ECU. Give pmac some competition out there! Call.....etc., etc.:Z32:

Oh yes they will!

But on a more serious note, some dicerning person should take a look at Mr Fs slick top. Ive only just got mine and its a brilliant little car.
No troublesome turbos, no silly rear end steering, no leaky targas that get soaking wet with condensation, proper g box that you control, not some Nissan programmer. etc No brat seats in the back, ie a proper sports car! ;)

Only problem with MrFs one???

ITS NOT RED :D :D :D

Gutless...not. Any car capable of fourteen second quarters is a quick motor in anyones book. Also with a 4.1 diff ratio it has embarrassed several highly modified TTs to half track. I make no claims to it being the ultimate power horse, but as a safe and usable quick road car, I'd rather be driving it than most of the "quick" TTs I get to sample.:Z32:

gutless then..........
The 300ZX Z32 SWB,N/A Slick top in manwell form is the classic example of the "less is more" genre.
All the right bits (even in std form) and none of the unneccessary extras of its longer ,fatter cousins! :D

i must admit i thought they were a "slug"....... just shows how uninformed i am on the later z's, still me 2+2 will whip its ass ....lol:p (GROLLS LEARNING ALL THE TIME):D

the Z32 NA slick top is no slug Grolls. Heres a few facts to start off your education. :D
Weight:- Z32 is 25% heavier in typical spec, but power is increased by over 53% in stock form with a 33% increase in torque!
So 260 2+2 is 133bhp/1000kg. Z32 is 163bhp/1000kg.
These figures are based on a stock late spec 2800cc engine. If you compare it to a stock 2600cc motor the Z32 is even more superior!
So lets drop the slug bit.Eh?
Now getting the power onto the ground. need some good wide rubber here methinks.
260 2+2 say 7x15s is as big as you can go with 225 wide tyres.
My Z32 runs 10" rears with 275/35 x 18" rubber.
So Vastly superior power to weight ratio, coupled with sustantially improved grip.
Not much of a doubt whos ass is gonna get whipped!
And dont get me started about the look of ALL them 2+2s with their elongated roofs and rear brats seat.
But as ever this is just figures on a forum. Just head down to Santa Pod cos when the flag drops....the BS stops.. ;) ;) ;) ..

:Z32: RULES :D

Hi Pmac,
Are you sure your Z32 is an NA and not just a TT with inoperative turbos! :p

On paper and from my experience the NA Z32 has similar performance to the Turbo Z31 although the relative lack of torque in the NA car ..200 vs 242ft lbs, means that unless you drive the NA Z32 at high revs, the Turbo Z31 has greater mid range punch!
With regard to the wheels, the stock 16"ers provide more than adequate grip for the NA car, if you have decent tyres! The 18" wheels will probably just slow down your getaway!
I look forward to seeing your new car and would like to get a photo for the HOE web page, which I'm rebuilding.

Cheerz,
JEZ;)

mmmmm interesting, but your forgetting pmac, your car will be considerably slower off the line cos of them dirty great big wheels!!!!!! i should imagine it will be like pulling away in third...:p

all your car needs is a decent sun roof and then i'd want one .....lol:D

I don't think these 18s have been fitted with tractor tyres - the extra rubber width contributes little to the rolling resistance. The total tyre diameter is more important as it changes the overall gearing of the car. Small diameter = improved acceleration / lower terminal speed, large diameter = poorer acceleration / higher terminal speed. If the 18s have (as I imagine most will) a suitable low profile tyre, then the diameter will be little different to the stock 16", but with more grip. The low ratio diff can still do its work to punch the lightweight NA off the line - believe me, this happens; I've been there and done it.

A stock Z31 turbo and a stock Z32 NA will always be a good close race and driver ability will come into play - reaction times particularly.

Pmac, what’s all this rubbish about red cars being faster, just check out Einstein’s special theory of relativity, where he proposes that if you were travelling close to the speed of light and were to look at a 240z catching up with you (travelling at the speed of light) then it would be appear blue shifted in the light spectrum, proving scientifically beyond doubt that blue Z's are faster than red Z's.

Mind you he also said that if you ever hit the speed of light then you would have an infinite mass (bout right for a Z32 then)

I did consider offering Mike a bribe but thought “what’s the point, I gonna open a can of whoopass on Pmac anyway no matter what class I am in”

Will there be seperate trophies for stock & mod' 240z and 260z (4 trophies) or are we lumping them all in as S30 ?

I say we go for S30 stock and mod' due to dwindling numbers - although running a late 260z I am probably shooting myself in the foot here !
