What did you do to your Z this week?

How did you secure it?

I’ve got a similar one, just haven’t fitted it yet
Single cable tie through the Aldi supplied bracket and seat cross member - it took about 2 minutes. The carpet wedges it snug. Seat slides all the way forward and back without contact. It's like it was made for it[emoji106]

Minimal progress on Dixie’s shell recently. However, had a session today where I drilled the (undersized) pilot holes for the rear ZG overfenders. Lots of measuring to match each side. Once the arches have been cut and welded, I will install rivnuts.

On the welding side, as much as I’d like to do all that myself (having set myself up with all the kit), reality has bitten in terms of time, effort, skill, etc. I’m sorting outsourcing body repairs and mods to a pro now so that the project can actually pick up some steam and be executed to the level I want it to be in a reasonable timeframe.

The likely plan now is strip, dip, and weld-thru prime at Enviro-Strip, welding and mods here in Macclesfield, then body shop for paint next spring. Meantime, I continue restoring and preparing all bolt on parts and build the engine. Timeline is then on the road in summer 2020.

Everything would be much quicker without family stuff!...

Forgive me father for I have sinned!!! I knew I should resist the urge but it was too great!

I was out having fun in the Z when a young lad in a highly modified fiat abarth clocked me and got n front. Onto the dual carriageway and he went for it, so did I. When we stopped at the next lights he wound his window down and asked "how many times did you back off? I'm running 220 BHP, what is that thing? What's the hell's under the bonnet"!? :D

"It's a what!? A Dat-what!?" ;)

And all that without breaking 6K RPM. I think this is gonna be a lotta fun when broken in and tuned properly!

You should be embarrassed picking on a car with half the cc of your s30 !

In all seriousness, I think you will find the young lad was a novice driver. 220bhp in Abarth is sub 6 second 0-60 times. Not sure a mildly modded L28 is going to Crack those times.

The only way to be sure of what the new set up is capable of is to have a few more test it races ( on a private highway of course)

I like! I have a couple of those and have been wondering how to fit one in the Z. I think I'll do the same behind the passenger seat because it will be easier for me to reach than from behind the drivers one.

Had a visit from DHL with some new toys. From Osaka to my door in sub-36 hours. Impressed!

New, correct JDM Z fender mirrors for Dixie, and a “Japanese style” welded, big valve and port N42. Head is part finished and needs final chamber and port shaping and polishing, but large seats are installed already. It should be an interesting autumn or winter project...

Oooh. Whats the details on the head, from where!?

I currently have 'headache' deciding what to do.
It was actually an almost accidental impulse buy on Yahoo Auctions Japan (using BidJDM as the bidding engine). Made a cheeky low first bid at bedtime when browsing, expecting to get outbid and woke in the morning discovering I was a few hundred quid lighter!

Source of work unknown. It’s an N42, welded up and has had big race size seats installed. I put a standard N42 IN 44mm valve in to check and it looked small in the seat! It’s clearly setup for 46/38 valves at least. The ports have been roughly enlarged and shaped, so just need matching work and polishing etc. As the pics show, the chambers haven’t been shaped yet, so CC can be decided to my preference. Assuming no issues reveal themselves, the head will be built up for my 3.1 build, featuring an Isky .580 lift, 306deg cam, NISMO springs, and Kameari valves.

Did a couple of lap of the Nürburgring this evening. A bit scary not knowing what was round all those corners but enjoyed the experience. I managed a lap in 10min 49seconds. I’ll try harder tomorrow. I’ll post a vid of the lap when I get back.

Been for a drive tonight - I'd say the carb insulators are doing their job [emoji1]

Front wheels and brake calipers have been removed and I'm in the process of cleaning them up. P/o fitted Toyota 4 pots - a nice upgrade I would have probably done anyway (cheers!).

Had her running. Still struggles a bit with the cold start. I've tested the cold start valve and it seems operational. Sprayed some injector cleaner in the air intake to see if that does anything. Appeared to start a little easier after, but it had warmed up a little by that point.

Started stripping all the old rubber around the doors to fit some nice new seals.

Oh, and I found some sort of abandoned bug nest behind one of the front panels! The joys of buying import!

I removed all of the brakes, suspension and drivetrain from my first 280Z then sent all the bits that I can't fit in my oven to the local powder coater.
I made a start on the rear brakes after stripping them down.
Cleaned and rebuilt the slave cylinders.
Painted the backing plates then zinc plated the adjusters before fitting new shoes and hardware.
I tried a couple of different finishes on a spare set of drums that I had lying around.
Firstly I tried Foilatec silver brake caliper paint which looked terrible followed by satin black powder coat, which I still wasn't happy with.
I finally settled for chrome powder apart from the wheel mating surface which got a thin coat of silver.

So after 5 years of ownership and countless car covers, the zed finally has a inside home and no longer must sit out in the hot and cold weather. After 8 years of renting, finally moved into our new home that we started over a year ago on a piece of graph paper. What a experience but very happy it is over, except for landscape etc. And a 3 car garage so I have room to grow the zed family. LOL

What use do those plastic, loose fitting 'bungs/plugs' in the drums serve?
