The road to your first Z....

Cleaning out some old files today and found the first insurance certificate from my first 240Z in 1978. Got me reminiscing about my old cars and how I actually ended up with my Z. Thought it might make an amusing thread to find out the "journey" (sorry...) that other people took to end up with the keys to their first Z. For me it was -

1971 -
Lambretta SX200 No. 1 (written off in crash with police car!)
Lambretta SX200 No. 2
Reliant Regal
Rochdale Olympic Mk.1 (specialist "kit" car, looked like a Porsche. But didn't go like one..)
Sunbeam Stiletto
Triumph Vitesse 1600 Convertible
Alfa Romeo 1750 GTV
Triumph Stag
1978 - 240Z UVU 435K

£250 from Exchange and Mart. Advertised as "frontal panel damage" As a gullible 23 year old I thought that meant the front valance, but it actually meant every panel at the front including bent chassis legs! My dad was adamant it could be repaired, and he was right.

Well that's me - anyone else care to share?

Perhaps accompanied by a photo of said Z and did you mean £250 for it ?

Well I saw an ad for a 240z in Portishead. Seems he had bought it 18 months previously from a Sam_C from up north. Good decision to buy
Sam, you found another one yet?

For me starting in 1977:
Mini clubman 1971 - soon sprayed black/black windows/ big wheels/arches/rally seats/furry dice.
MG midget - 1972 round rear arches (car written off, not my fault)
Fiat X1/9 - my most fun car, light and revvy (sold as non runner with gearbox/rust issues)
Toyota MR2 Mk1 - (written off.......)
Toyota MR2 Mk1 - exact spec / colour replacement (sold with gearbox issues/rust).
MGF - lots of issues, (run it until it was very tired)
Citroen Berlingo ! - planned as a sleepover van. What was i thinking? Part exed for...
Audi TT MK1 - had it 8 years and will keep it to the end. Few thrills but so what
240Z. A second car to tinker with and remind me of cars with carbs driving.

All my cars have been 2 seaters (except the mini). The Berlingo and the Audi have had the rear seats removed.

Hi Sean.

Yes, really 250 of your earth pounds sterling. I thought it must have been a misprint and he wanted £1250, but he was in the middle of a divorce, selling house blah, blah, so £250 it was. Not too many pictures from that time, but (if they load) I have two. One shows the car plus the delightful Janice, whose savings account ( she thought we would be getting married apparently….) provided the finance. Still feel bad about not paying her back , but hey-ho.;)

Hi Gareth. A Fiat with rust problems? Really?? ;) As for my current situation..the 240Z formerly known as "Rahail's car" now resides in North Yorkshire.:)

1. You cant unless you have administrator privileges

2. open new post with reply or quote button, click the paperclip icon, upload pics, then when doing your post click on same icon when you want to insert your image and you should see the list of images you uploaded.
Tip, only upload a few at a time, although since we swapped servers the uploads have been far, far better :)

Ok…think I've got it now!!

And after a few years, a bit of a makeover. This was a tribute to the 240E-ckythump model, only available in certain markets (the 3 Ridings of Yorkshire) It can be identified by the
unique to this model grill, and the tree on the roof. I'm sure Albrecht will have further information for anyone who might be interested in finding out more.

I thought that the hubcaps were quite fetching......I can't get to grips with the revised front grill area though....

Hubcaps were from some sort of Rover saloon. The grill...well, we all have to start our "modifying" career somewhere, don't we?:)
