I went to a De Tomaso owners day at Castle Coombe about 20 years ago....There were some very nice examples there!

I love the 70's/80's Astons also, but the first car I would buy if I won the lotto would be a De Tomaso Pantera, always had a soft spot for these cars I think they are gorgeous .

Not the prettiest but leaning towards the macho :

At least the Pantera owners were giving their cars a run on the track, whereas the Ferraris and Lambos mainly stayed put in the car park!....

He's right you know - a Jalpa ?

Don't confuse the later versions of Cannonball (with Burt Reynolds) with the first ('76) film with David Carradine ! Shows' that you're younger...........

Mark - we're Z owners ! So despite considering other cars as more beautiful - we've cosen Zs - there's REAL Z passion for you - convinced ?

Also, no matter what they're worth to us and we spend onthem - they're not inthe same budget as those previously mentioned.....................

ps I love the 260Z but it aint because it's pretty.

im quite disappointed that no Z'S were mentioned? your on a forum for your pride and joy and no mention of any z's!?

well for me it the 260z, i love it, such an amazing car. il stick to my z's and you can have your Aston matins, alfa romeos etc! lol

Eye Candy: Nissan 260Z 2+2 from Ireland - Carscoop

I didn't buy my 260Z because I thought it was the most beautiful car in the world.
I bought it because at the time it was a relatively cheap car which had exotic looks.

After a while of driving it I realised what a bloody good car it was for its era, fell in love with it and have kept it ever since.

When my car was at Predator Motorsport recently having its exhaust fitted, there was an AM V8 Vantage parked opposite. It was a great oppertunity to compare the two at the turn of my head.
I imagined the owner of the Aston suggesting we do a straight swap for keeps because he loved my Z so much.

After a bit of thought I came to the conclusion that I couldn't do it - even though the Aston was worth much more money. I have too much of an emotional attachment to it.

It would be a harder decision if it was a V12 however.......

I love it.....but it isn't better than my 240Z - there is something 'fussy' about it.

Rob - interesting that you say "exotic looks" and then perhaps finding out that it IS rare too !
Do you think your V8 AM has as much fun as you will as regularly ? That is after all what any of these cars is for unless the owner is a truly sad person that needs the car to impress !

I didn't mention the S30 because I thought it was a given? I like the old Toyota too (apart from the headlights). I've gone off the Muira a bit now. I must admit, tastes do change as I used to love it. The Stratos is starting to make me feel gooey again. It's a bit like a kick-arse Star Wars ship or Transformer (in it's sometimes curvy, sometimes angular, always f*cking loud way). Being a designer, I guess I look for different things in a subject before deciding whether I like it or not.

Perhaps I should have said "evocative of much more expensive machinery".

In terms of S30's a UK spec late model 260Z (RS30) surely is rare, but that aside any S30 in the UK was / is rare. However in the grand scheme of things it is still a mass produced car, and whilst numbers are becoming less and less it will never reach the status of true exotica.

In contrast the AM V8 - released in 2005 - has approximately 3000 examples made per year.
The V12 - released last year - will be limited to 1000 examples.

Perhaps you can see why I'd swap my 260Z for the V12 and not the V8.

Well I've never driven one so I couldn't honestly answer that - but I don't see why not.

I can't choose. I'll just take one of each of the ones mentioned. C'mon Lotto! :D
