LOL!!! Its not always that tidy .... as you know;)
Its been a busy "changeover week"
This time last week Bob's car was parked in the same spot.
He will be collecting his this week.
Thast leave me free to get on with the rally car.......and get the new engine in my slicktop too in time for Japfest at Castle Combe:bow:

So I now have a modern interpretation of the drop lamp bumper like the No 5 Monte works car.
Mine is a virtual copy of the one on Dominic Frattarolli's car.
The brackets are a laser cut Star motorsport item. The bolt in lamp section is in aluminium ally with tabs welded on for the lights. The bumper quarters are all thats used from an original bumper..
Its now off to be powder coated in satin black to keep the build theme going

Did you have the kick plates powder coated black? And are those ball joints on the compression rods?

Outer kick plates are powder coated satin black.
inner carpet plates are crackle finish satin black which loosely replicates the original vinyl covered finish..... The devil is always in the detail;)

The compression rod has the nylon ball conversion and a urethane bush on the other side.:thumbs:

im sure it is . One of the preparation firms asked me recently about one.
Im not sure I have time at the moment.I am now set to complete this car for the summer so doing stuff for other people will have to take a back seat ATM.
Lets see how it looks when its powder coated and the lamps are on!

So I called in to the bodshop toay to leave some bonnet pins to be fitted.
They are making good steady progress.......................

Theres a 100 hours work on the wiring alone so not long.....:(

You have an allocation of 40 for wiring. If you want to spend another 60 drinking tea and chatting on your mobile then its OK with me.:rolleyes:

Wiring:

I know you guys are having a bit of banter but really good heavy-duty, well 'fused/protected' wiring and reliable switches are worth spending time on.

My old 240Z has had wiring faults on both Montes. Last time it was a dash fire, this time it was the headlight switch on the column. I got a call late on the Thursday to say that the headlights had failed (fortunately he has 6 other lights). A discussion the next morning sorted it (broken soldered connection on the light switch).

When the guy drove the car for the first time 2 years ago (on his way home to France) I got a call after 2 hours to say the car had stopped. Again it was sorted over the phone (spinning an in-line fuse to the fuel pump).

Simple in hindsight but a major problems at the time.

Pete do the 'serious' rally guys still use the standard Datsun switchgear?

Thank you for your concern Rob, but trust me its all under control. Both metaphorically and literally.:thumbs:

High end cars normally have aircraft quality custom looms with a price to suit.
 
But Pete do the likes of Perez use the standard 240Z steering column switches for lights, indicators, wipers etc? If not what is available?

There must be a market for new replacements. :confused:
