Rant - but important

I have been a member of the Z Club since 1996 and enjoyed attending many events. When I retired 2 years ago I offered my services to the Club Committee. I'm now the Membership Sec, general Sec and recently volunteered to 'pull together' the PPC day.

It has been an eye opener - it's so much more work than you could imagine and my admiration goes to my predecessors.

PPC (me) and Japfest (Madmarco) - If people say they are going to attend then that's what they should do. If you are not sure then don't put your name down. You should treat the club in the same way you treat any other event organiser. You can't contact PPC or Japfest and say put me down, I'll pay later and then they hold a ticket for you while you 'fanny around' for a few weeks and then either decline or pay up and then change your mind again.

Also be careful not to get events mixed up - more than one person has agreed to attend the PPC day when they really meant Japfest. We can't 'spoon-feed' adults.

There is another Japfest later this year at Rockingham - anybody want to volunteer to organise it?

Appathy and a non appreciation of those who input......would they do it?....nope!

Stiil. I appreciate all the effort from those that can be arsed.......i'll buy ya a beer anytime and cheers for the input!!!!!

Tell me about it Rob, it is very time consuming. There must be an easier way although I am damned if I can think of it.

Rob it is a god awful job at times and sometimes you feel like saying eff this it is meant to be a hobby and do I need this grief been there worn the tee shirt more times than enough
then on the day of the event and immediately after it you walk about with a enormous smile on your face knowing you have been the reason that the people who went to the event had such a great time

maybe the answer would be that if people put their name down on a list we ask them for the monies straight away but the big problem is that I dont think people realize that the club pays up front for events that involve z only track session ie 2 sessions at japfest costing £1200 and £693 for PPC in the Park so thats a outlay of approx £1900 the club pays out upfront

Rob, your absolutely right mate,, and I have to admit in front of all that I'm one of the offenders:( Mistook PPC for Japfest I did ,, I know it can be called an "easy" mistake to make but at the end of the day Rob is right,,,were all adults and we should be responsible for our mistakes and actions !! Its not an easy job , these events and it is bloody costly to the club as well ,, so why dont we all when we "cock up" make a donation thru paypal and promise the organizer a pint when we next meet ?

Well Rob you have my thanks for along with Steve and the others for holding the club together

Maybe we're too generous and should get moneys up front, so first come first served for those who pay instead of those who are quickest to post on the thread?

The events are what make a club, nice as the website is, it'd be a shame if organisers have a hard time of it and we lose them.

Remember to thank the organisers when you attend an event people!

while you 'fanny around' for a few weeks and then either decline or pay up and then change your mind again.

Whoah!! Just hold on a moment.

Who exactly are you accusing of "fannying around"??
I have withdrawn from PPC in the park and from a track session at Japfest.
So are you including me in your general unfounded acccusations??

Cos if you are I dont take kindly at all to it.
I have withdrawn from PPC and partly withdrawn from Japfest for the simple reason that I wont have a car ready in time.
Now the reason I wont have the car ready is to do with urgent family matters that have I have no need or wish to explain on here.
So I would be greatful if you can clarify who in your opinion is "fannying around" and what exactly constitutes "fannying around".
Failing that I would appreciate an apology for your seemingly unfounded accusations .

It does seem like a thankless task most of the time. Rob, you put an enormous amount of your time in, as does Mark & Steve and a few others too. It's the 'invisible' people that make these things happen and it carries bugger all kudos (other than knowing, when it goes right, lots of peeps are smiling and milling about, and don't know why). Pete, I don't think it's a personal dig at anyone. We're having a similar problem with Z010 with people who put their names down for it last year but are shying away now it's close to hand. Whatever. I love the 'undercover' people in this club. It's pretty weak but I know that for all of my shortcomings as a chairman, there are a handful of guys and gals who keep this ship afloat nicely for everyone to enjoy.

Either :

1) The Club only attends non-paying events so the stress is off (and perhaps more public 'run to the coast' trips etc or,

2) get the money as soon as people book like I do for Le Mans Classic etc - I've been organising 'voluntary' events for over 20 years and if people put money up, they attend and if they don't, you're not out of pocket !

Pmac - go ruffle your skirts elsewhere, if you've given the maximum of notice and explained why then what was said shouldn't apply to you and don't expect an apology - you're not a forgiving person when people fanny around with you and parts - same principle !

Carry on Rob but from now on - no money, no booking !

i understand what you are saying rob,its not easy .i put my name down for both events but i have paid up for PPC but i am unable to make Japfest as i just can not afford to go but i let this be known on the Japfest thread, unfortunately you will always get people drop out but i would be annoyed more if they did not let me know that they could not make it.

There needs to be cut off dates that are final. Name down, place confirmed, none returnable payment made or your name is automatically removed. That way another person can take the place and not have to sit on a waiting list until the event date is almost upon us. If you cannot go it would be up to you to sell on the place at the original cost or a discount (on the forum) or stand the loss.

Rob it's hard work, I know. I'ts always worth the effort but sometimes it feels like it isn't.

The truth is, we all appreciate the efforts of everyone who keeps the club running but it's very easy to take things for granted and we just aren't very vocal at thanking you all as often as we should.

Huge thanks to you all :)

Ditto that I thought that I was booked for japfest and got a pay pal for PPC so I paid it then got a phone call from Steve to say which event was I down for, God knows how these things happen but we are all human and make mistakes !!. And as the club gets bigger more mistakes will happen but as Sean says Pay up and shut up ! sorry for any confusion over the events and move on and learn by this and have a paid event rule with a cut off date clearly written in RED BOLD LETTERS

What a great thread! It's about time we all voiced our own strong opinions about club matters.
Rob
We do appreciate the hard work that you,Mr B and many others put into the club in general.
Pete
You obviously had a genuine reason for cancelling, no one could ever acuse you of being letharjick!
Sean
100% agree, pay your money up front and make a bloody good effort to get to the event.
To those who don't come to events because there cars are not ready, Stop Fannying around (love the expression Rob) infront of the telly in the evenings and get out there and finish the car!
