Pretty sure the paying customer gets a decent say in how things go.why not even humour fans and consult a bit?

What's the point of pointing out that it's not in the club spirit because he makes a profit?
I wish MZR all the best, I hope they will be here for a long time. Love their builds
Yes. We all praised Mike Feeney and he too was out to make a profit. Nothing wrong with that. It ensures supply of parts.there’s a fair few who are here to make a profit.
Who said/did that ? Not I...

......why not even humour fans and consult a bit, to at least reduce the sensation of aloofment ?
I'd like to see the entire range of S30s (and why not S31s) in his catalogue…….be different than other Z restorers than how best to improve and decorate an S30
Rahail is there to turn a profit - he can and does have all the passion for 240Zs but not club* spirit - he's a business-man primarily (and without a doubt, the family pressure is there for him to succeed for he is a brave man to have taken this route rather than the safe family business) but first and foremost, he and MZR have to continue existing and that means commissions and profit.
Fully agreeYes. We all praised Mike Feeney and he too was out to make a profit. Nothing wrong with that. It ensures supply of parts.
Is there an annual open-door welcome to local and national club member/Zowners – again, the more Z-owner fans he has talking about and ‘endorsing’ the product – the better.
Some of the comments in this thread are the proof of the pudding that staying behind the green curtain is a good idea for traders who are happy to let the quality of their work speak for them.
I’m not sure that MZR’s involvement with the club would do anything for his business.
He might get some enquiries about seats.
Haha yes, which they won’t answer.
That’s what gives the impression of “aloofness” which someone mentioned earlier.
If I were in the market for an MZR I’d be reluctant because of this stance
And quite right not to.
Have you ever had a bespoke suit made for you? I see the MZR format as something similar. You'll get to choose a lot of the details you want (hence 'Bespoke'), but if you go to Anderson and Sheppard you are going to get an Anderson and Sheppard suit.
Try asking a Savile Row tailoring business if they will give you the names and numbers of their outworkers, as you want to 'cut out the middle man'. I'm guessing you'd get something a bit more than "aloofness" in return.
Im going by experience, 40 years in the top end of the Motor trade but later started up a Company called Etype UK.
With my Brother and 12k in the bin we pioneered lots of upgrades and bespoke builds. The company sold a few years ago and is one of the leading companies building Etypes today.
We started this company as I say with 12k, building it slowly. Our main success was based on the fact we started up the Etype UK forum, it’s now massive, the only Etype Forum.
We offered up help and advice to everyone on that forum being open and transparent and it was an open shop. Anyone could come and see.
It was fun, we were proper enthusiasts of the brand and the customers were top notch in the main.
That’s how we did it. Built a community on it.
All well and good, but I don't see the relevance to the MZR situation?
But if you started your E-type forum when it was the only E-type forum, then how is that comparable with the S30-series Z's situation?
There have been Z-related mailing lists and forums almost since the beginning of the social media age, and MZR came about well after all that. How could MZR "build a community" that was already existing in many formats elsewhere?
I just don't see how Martin and/or Rahail as MZR would stand to benefit in any measurable way by participating in forums like this one. In fact it could easily be turned against them, such as if somebody insisted on knowing where their seats were from/what they were based on/where they were made.
Why would they be obligated to supply that information, and - indeed - would it not be a bit previous to ask...?
No, I think they are doing the right thing. They have a well-controlled presence in their chosen media (Petrolicious etc) and don't seem to need to/want to give it The Hard Sell. Seems well judged to me.
