@Pondo I stashed an Apple Airtag in it so I'll be keeping a close eye on it!

@Mr.G Look forward to meeting you too! I'm hoping for a very Datsun-filled spring and summer!

Here's the pic from my Dad of it loaded on the trailer. It gets driven down to LA and loaded into the container on Monday I'm told. I'm excited but definitely a bit stressed!

Well I had a bit of horrifying moment yesterday when I checked the air tag location. The car was in San Diego over the weekend before being dropped off at the port in LA on Monday. I had been checking up on the location in San Diego yesterday, I saw it start to move again and assumed it would head north to LA to be dropped off as planned. When I checked again later it had traveled south further and was stopped 5 min from the border to Mexico!

Naturally I assumed it had been stolen and my precious Datsun was about to disappear into Mexico forever. So I started panic-calling the shipping company and truck driver. No one would pick up the phone but fortunately the truck driver responded via text and confirmed he still had the car and just needed to pick up another car from near the border and then he would go up to LA.

I watched the tracker as it headed back up north and now the shipping portal has been updated that it's been dropped off at the port, so everything is okay. Nearly gave me a heart attack though, it's going to be a long couple of weeks. Bit of a blessing and a curse having the air tag too...

That brings back memories from 1977. My sister lived in San Diego so I went over for 5 weeks to coincide with the F1 GP at Long Beach. Went down to Ensenada via Tijuana. My little cousin in the picture (Baja peninsula) was 50 last week!

When my Z came from Austin, Texas, I said to the garage I bought it when Is it being picked up etc - no idea they said, you just book it to be collected and then they turn up ‘at some point’ and take the car and they might be going straight to Houston or they might be circumnavigating the state picking up other cars and it might be two/three weeks before they get to Houston … as has been said, you’ve paid for everything but you don’t know where the car is - just that it’s somewhere in Texas …

Your car looks good. Hope its journey over is stress-free.

@Rob Gaskin That's really cool! I didn't end up spending too much time down south but I can remember going to San Diego as a kid (Although most of my memories are just of Legoland...)

@uk66fastback Yeah that sounds quite similar to my experience.. I had no idea the car was going to be picked up then driven to SD to stay at the truck driver's house for a couple days, then down to the border, then LA where it will sit for some amount of time until the container is filled 😅 I'm thankful I had the truck driver's phone number at least.

Thank you, I think the stress levels will be entirely dependent on how often I check the airtag location 😂

Finally have a bit of an update--the Z is officially on its way here, the ship is estimated to arrive in the UK sometime late March. Unfortunately it just sat at the shipping office in LA for a month since they were waiting on another car to fill up the container... which if I had known that I would've just left it in my parent's garage where it had been for the last 3 months.

I asked them if they could at least store it inside and they said they did, but we'll see. Under my ownership it's never sat outside for more than 1 night, and I religiously cover the un-cracked dash (Which of course I left completely uncovered because I had no idea it was going to sit outside). I'm dreading receiving it with a cracked dash and yellowed epoxy on all my composite panels.

Oh well, as long as it actually makes it here, everything else can be fixed.

Hope it arrives in good shape but if your that worried about it you shouldn’t be bringing it to the uk 😳😉🤓

Hey all, good news and bad news! Good news is the Z is supposed to arrive at the port on 24 March! Bad news is in all the chaos of moving (And having another shipping container with all our household goods...) I did not book any transport from the port to my house.

I don't know that I can legally tow a trailer myself as I'm still on my US driver license...

Does anyone know a good car transport company that might have availability on short notice?

Check out https://www.shiply.com/

People bid to ship your goods and you get to choose if you want any of them to do it. I've used the site for many things (including my 240Z) and never had a complaint. Mostly the people on there are individuals but there are a few businesses too. I used an independent chap who had a decent covered trailer.

Always check out the reviews and how much they are insured for, etc. If you're not on a tight deadline that helps because it gives the courier an opportunity to get a return trip and you get a better quote.
