Can anyone help me with getting a dating letter and Glass's guide extract so that I can get my 240Z registered as tax exempt?

Thanks
Sean

Why do you need a letter, is the first registration date close to the cut-off date?

Glasses Guide, again why?

You will still need to send a dating letter with the V5 even if the registration date is shown on the form as DVLA go by manufacture not registration date. It will need to be manufactured before 1 Jan 1976. Just done mine with no problems through the Post Office.

This is the e-mail address for Nissan Japan.

Postoffice@nissan.co.jp

You will need to ask for full date of manufacture i.e. day, month and year. You will need to provide your VIN number.

They are very efficient and should reply by e-mail within a couple of days.

Good luck

I'm intrigued to know what info is in the Glasses Guide that dates your car?

I just thought it was a price guide for relatively current cars.

The latest date for historic class is a build date of before January '76 so a March '75 registered car surely doesn't need any proof?!

If I remember correctly there was a thread on here that pointed out it was recommended by the DVLA that the the Glasses Guide was a good reference to help people to apply correctly to gain tax exemption and they recommended a copy of the relevant page would be helpful
Seems peoples memories are getting shorter with age and this was the reason that the club purchased a copy when one became available

It is Rob, published monthly and nowadays on line for the trade, however Glasses also produce Check Book which gives model relevant info, production years and chassis ranges, it used to be good for spec checking vehicles in the days before the Internet.
It's the check book that is what is being referred to here I think.

Thank you Mike, I didn't want to trouble you whilst you were recovering. If you can provide this it would be great, I've checked with the DVLA and they will accept this. I will send you a photo of the Vin stamp on the bulkhead.

Many thanks.

That being so, they will only accept V5's registered no latter than January 1975.

Well no. If your V5 shows a first registered date of March '75 then there's your proof that it was built before January '76. Just take it down to your local Post Office that taxes cars and ask them to change it's taxation class to 'historic'.

Remember that it's the DVLA you're dealing with here!:banghead: Half the time it depends on the day the person is having when they deal with it. They never seem to apply logic.

My approach would be a 'belt & braces' one and provide as much as possible. If Mike can let you have the Glass's Guide and a Dating letter and you can also get a Nissan manufacture's letter (which is free of charge). then go for it all and get the Post Office to send it all off to DVLA. That should stop their stupid questions and possibly save time.
