What's going on with the wheel in the third photo your last post, Sean?!

Or is it just my eyes?

Martin'll be over with his trailer soon with another one finished and yes, most quotes inflate like balloons....

Amazing finish...but that grey one is so 80's...I mean what's with those stripes? Apologies in advance if the owner is reading ;)

So, '80s , What's with this Samuri revival then, the 'retro-look' and all else ?

Must we all dance to the same tune, low-ride our Datsun saloons with 17'' wheels and 45 profile tyres.......

I'm surprised that no-one has mentioned the rear spoiler, all in metal.:)

Not at all hence My comments that the stripes don't work for me:eek::rolleyes: clearly I am dancing to a different tune:thumbs:

And neither does that spoiler as I like the clean look...there you go,!

The craftsmanship, quality of finish and the execution of design are A1 so don't take this the wrong way:D

It looks like its pointing inwards rather a lot. No?

Keep off the hard stuff Dale. ;)

The rear of an S30 tapers a lot and can give that impression (especially from that angle), I was surprised when I looked at them at Mallory from high up in the Control Tower.

I think that z looks so smart! Apparently quite controversially, I love the stripes! I think it looks so perfect with that colour of car!

Well, today is the day. I decided the weather was good enough to take it to work and then onto the garage after; please don't snow!

Surely when giving someone a quote, they need to stick to that figure as that is what a quote is for? That sounds like people are being misleading to me and can't be legal (i'm probably just being naive and stubborn).

I know pictures can be very deceptive, but I agree with Tim, the car looks too good to need a full baremetal re-spray

Lovely looking car!

My good wife wants the Zed in this colour but i'm torn between a 370z monterey blue / black or bmw gun metal grey.

I work with providing quotes every day but in a different line of business from car body work but shouldn't it be virtually the same everywhere else?

In my eyes a quote is a detailed cost for the work that is carried out by a supplier. It will be as accurate as possible and can give a breakdown of the work carried out to show what you're paying for and what the material costs are.

Obviously, businesses need to make money and hide little % markups on supplies aswell as the work carried out.

In an ideal world, this figure proposed to you in a quote is what it will cost as a maximum. I would speak to the person doing the job and tell them that the work cannot surpass the amount quoted. If the job/project at hand looks like it's going to surpass the quote, I need to know in advance to why it's going over the previously proposed quote. A decent supplier will let you know in advance these details and I would get this in writing before any work goes ahead so if it goes to, 'hit the fan' it acts as a supporting document if the worst happens and needs to be settled by a third party.

The problem is that in this case we're talking about cars and even worse, classic cars. I'm friends with a retired ex Ferrari / Porker vehicle inspector. I've had countless of conversations with him about how he has had to value cars. On the outside, they look perfect but take away a wing or a panel and it could uncover the dreaded, 'car cancer'. If your car is like that, it'll obviously cost more and a decent body shop will discuss this further with you.

I think if you've got a friend who paint will spend the time taking the car apart first and check everything in detail or you have a really good body shop who can do this without breaking the bank or even better do it for free it helps out a shed load. The big problem is time is money!

I think it boils down to the research on who you want to paint the car and getting good word of mouth referrals.

I'm going to be in the same position in a few months time. I've been looking about and listing possible companies to do the work from online suggestions on car forums to word of mouth.

Sorry for the long rant...

Haha, right. Well, if they look nice, aren't terribly expensive, and I can see enough to get in and out of the garage without hitting it, that'll do me!

Thanks so much for taking the time to reply so thoroughly! I truly appreciate it.

Also, thanks to all the other comments, it's nice to hear that you guys like the car.

I went to the body shop earlier today, they suggested (like you guys) that a full body respray would be a bad idea, for pretty much the same reasons that you guys gave. He did, however, suggest that he would try and re-allign the panels and spray the bits that were missed by the people before (basically tidying up the paintwork in general).

They are also going to quote for a new interior, and to refurb the wheels... exciting!

i'm not looking forward to the £ signs, but lets see! i'll let you guys know....

..

Interior ? I though you were after a respray quote?

wheels ? Normally its around £50 a wheel so £200+ ...think very carefully as you can buy a new set for >> £450 ish ( and sell old ones) in case you wanted to change styles etc

There's a Z fan and garage in Lithuania - Jan who does leather interior kits as good prices.

Classic car quotes - why I mentioned reasonable repairs included 'cos sometimes there're horrors hiding and the cars' owners know this but keep quiet.....
