Another high end car auction

So now you go on the attack on something else
What is wrong with you

I'm simply reacting to what I'm reading and hearing.

The idea is that - by listening to what others have to say, and stating our own opinions - we might come to some kind of concensus. Some might change their views according to what they read, and some might not. At the very least its useful, sometimes quite revealing, to know what others are thinking.

It's all part of a great tradition. The tradition of the Forum...

Sean you have mentioned this 'island-mentality' a few times - I quite like our island tbh. Are you jealous? ;)

I miss a few things but jealous would be too strong a description....way too strong;)

I'm referring to the 'what counts is what's here on our raods' way of thinking and might include the recent spate of LHD cars for sale and wondering why at least one didn't sell for much when there is a massive market for them just 23 miles away and I suggested some sites for attracting a larger market.

There remains (IMHO) a legacy of down-valuing LHD cars on the market within the UK. I find that hard to understand and especially from a seller's point of view if he/she wants to maximise their return upon investment.

I know of at least two RHD UK market cars that left your shores for Japan for example.

If people only look within their island - their mentality may be described as such and I'm not pinpointing anybody in particular here just the general trend and perhaps understandable if not logical.

I get it.

So my RHD car, completely standard and rust-free may sell to Japan or Oz and to be honest I would never have even considered that.

Yep.

Markets tend to suck in products when those locally outvalue those elsewhere....like exploring for oil in Siberia and Alaska - worthwhile now that a barrel costs 'X' but not worth doing just 75 years ago despite the fact that it was there since millions of years.

And what about all those Californiia market Porsches 'coming home'.....,

My Count, a funny thing happened to me.....

The question is, do you ever change YOUR views based on what others think Albrecht? I have to say I have not seen much evidence of it - and in this respect I am with Steve Burns.

Treading softly, I think more than once The Count has admitted to learning something new all the time.....that only comes from having an open and questioning mind.

This is not about changing views or not - it's about discussion, an exchange of quantifiedviews and ideas and not simply ''I don't like that, I don't know why, just don't so yahboosucks'' instead of "not my thing because (eg) I don't like the way the wings flare up at the end etc, etc....

Yes, all the time. Every day is a school day.

But to be frank, I don't learn much from this forum about the cars I'm most interested in (the Japanese market models and the works race cars) because 99.99% of the people who post here know next to nothing about them.

With respect, I hardly think people join the club to learn more about them.....after all, the feeling here is it's a Datsun like any other save a more powerful engine and not worth the estimates......

I was being sarcastic. Its a shame that as a club we're ignorant to the most important models and history of the range.

That is very harsh! I know you are being specific about 'your' interests but this Forum is wider.

Compared to you we know very little about specs, history, range however I get a lot of calls from people who know a LOT less than me so I am able to guide them into Z ownership and they appreciate it.

Many of use have 'first-hand' experiences of ownership, fast driving, restoring, maintenance etc Just think of the knowledge Mike Feeney, Steve K, PMac, Terry T, Dave Porter, Wyn, Sean, Mark Rayner have etc etc etc

Alan sometimes general ownership topics are more important to owners than the very detailed knowledge you have. Your knowledge is immense but you are happier to correct us than lead us IMO. Please write a book.

I'm kind of on the side of "worth it"

If I had the money, I'd have it in a heartbeat. In the same way if I could afford it I'd have a 1973 911 2.7 Carrera RS or a 1959 Ferrari 250 GT SWB. Beautiful cars all of them in my opinion, and I know a man who not that long ago sold his GT SWB for over £6m so someone thought that was worth it too.

I can't afford any of 'em nor am I likely ever to be able to, but that doesn't stop me appreciating their beauty and rarity.

Keeping my car on the road and minor improvements and mods is what is important to me.
Many thanks to those mentioned above!

No, because they're not 'worth' it !:D

Define 'most important' please ?

Z432s simply don't come up for public sale that often - I think that The Count can verify this but it's all word of mouth in the home country.

Suddenly 2x and a Kenmeri CAN be bought and those with money but not necessarily the contacts within Japan go after them...! No rocket-science - supply and demand.

I think, and this is all IMHO of course :) is that, there is a huge amount of information from the likes of the above mentioned peeps, the trouble is most of it stays in peoples heads and is only drip fed to the community as and when a relevant question/post illicits a response.

Now i know from previous experience, talking face to face or over the phone (MrF, PMac) far more info is gleaned,
and i appreciate people dont want to sit in front of a screen typing stuff out all the time, but, we are lucky as a club to have so many people with all that great information to share, the trouble is, very little of it is actually on the club forum/website in any meaningful format.

Save for all the snipits of information hidden away in threads/posts, what direct access to info is there?

How many times do people start a post with, 'i did a search but......'

Ive done many searches in the past myself and come up blank, not because i didnt find anything, just that what i did find isnt definitive or doesnt really come to any meaningful conclusion.

The threads on peoples resto's or engine builds are incredibly interesting and generally include some great snipits of info, but then when these threads eventually 'go dark' they gradually full off the radar until someone, linking to a thread to answer some other question brings it to the fore again.
If more info like this was in the form of stickies and or static pages/articles on the website/forum, we could gradually build up that hub of info that IMO the club is sorely lacking.
Many times ive seen some info in a linked thread/post that i have previously searched for but not found... maybe that says more about the search function than the actually lack of info though! ;)

Its out there, the info that is, it's just not necessarily available in a readable format, or if it is, it's genearlly mixed up/hidden within other info/threads/posts.

How do we improve the situation? .......not entirely sure, just wanted to throw it out there

This thread is going off course.

It would be better if we can discuss this particular rare car for sale instead.

Follow closer the threads and copy and paste the info as it appears......don't wait for it to be presented in a form that attracts one's attention......be more active and participate here !

Yes PZ - back to the beauty - were there many technical differences between the 'Kouki' and 'Zenki' models ?
