the best advice i can give is to get to Zedfest and see what condition the cars are in and talk to the owners and find out what they do to their cars to keep them maintained and just get a good idea of what is all about when owning a 240Z/260Z etc

Carcrazy,
If you want someone who knows a good bit about Z's, give me a shout, happy to cast an eye over something you are interested in....a more worth while way than trying to convey what to look for in the written word....

Cheers

The right 260z is worth waiting for.Get another car for now.Research as much as you can.Costs can be high,But believe me the moment you take a 260Z on the road its a fantastic experience. You will never look back.

1. If I get the engine restored professionally and the body work sorted out, how reliable is the car going to be. and am i likely to find alot of problems in the car especially as this is going to be my main car. (i don't want to be stuck on the side of the motorway)

When I had my first 260 2+2 back in the early 80's it was my only car and I did lots of trouble free miles in that car, I don't see any reason why a Z couldn't used everyday they're pretty simple and have less to go wrong than modern cars that's for sure, Even if you do break down it could probably be fixed at the side of the road unlike modern stuff.

If you do the rebuild properly and change to electronic ignition I don't see any problems.

Those Zs that we ran aornd in everday back then are now 10, 20 and 30 years older (well, at least the bodies are in the main) ! We all know that an S30 well maintained won't break down and in the unlikely event, a small spares pack carried in the boot and a few tools should get you going again.
It's the body that goes and I just feel that although, yes, it's very possible and probably cost effective to run a Z every day, especially whilst diesel is more expensive over there, on principle, one shouldn't - for the Zs sake ! Enjoy the car where it should be enjoyed, open roads and track-days !

This thread needs a poll and where the eff is carcrazy anyway - maybe he's bought an MG.........

You never heard of rust treatment then Sean ?, If a car is properly protected and cleaned thoroughly on a regular basis then I don't see any reason why it should matter if it's 1 year old or 50, I also ran a 1958 rover 105S for many years as a daily driver and once I had done all the necessary repairs and rust treated it properly I never had any issues with rust coming back, To be fair now I'm living in Scotland I doubt I'd use the Z in the winter months as they tend to use a lot of salt on the roads up here.

well i see it like this buy a us car all up and running lets say 5 grand to the doorstep apply 2 gallons of waxoil, nice clifford alarm £750, 4 wheel clamps £240 leaves a grand out of the 7k to play, keep it for 7 years enjoy it however you do see what it worth in 2016 (who knows) if its worth nothing (i shouldnt think so) even if it is its cost a grand a year by which time your be earning loads :D your never look back:cool:

For 10 years I ran a 260 2+2 as a daily driver & it had to sleep out in the drive as the Sam took up the garage, it did have a full restoration after owning it a few years but by the time I sold it in 2003 it was wanting more bodywork doing (the annoying thing was, it was the new rear arches that was causing the problems)

They can be run as daily runners if that is what he wants to do.
They use to take me down to Andover & the halfway house in the 80's without probs & no RAC, so a car with less than 100k on it should be OK.
