When you said you wanted the car as light as possible you weren't mucking about Mike. Fabulous job so far from the pictures. The attention to detail you are putting into this build is very impressive, such as the door handles for example.

Mike, it would be lighter with the standard carbs. ;)

Are you going to be able to get this down to 1000kg?

I was at Mallory Park on Saturday and watched some Escorts through scrutineering for a rally, they were just over 1000kgs with a tank of fuel.

When it's finished what are you going to do with it, do you have any sporty plans?

Rob I have no sporty plans for it.I just like the look of a racecar which fits nicely with trying to get the weight down. I will be gutted if it is not under 1000kg but we will have to wait and see.I have even changed the headlights to some lighter ones after weighing them.

Fantastic looking build. I'm sure getting rid of those front side markers could have saved a bit more weight!

Love a Z in white ...

Would the holes in the door handles not interfere with the aero dynamics ? :D

I believe it is an exercise in weight reduction rather than performance per se.

A good example is the retention of OEM suspension components which are invariably a good deal lighter than after-market components,

drum rears must be the lightest rear brake option

alloy bells, forged calipers at the front for a nice 4kg per side? unsprung mass is said to be worth 4x its actual weight.

Yes still retains rear drums and standard brakes on the front which will allow me to fit smaller wheels if need be

New crankshaft bolt and titanium washer as the OEM one is quite large and I like titanium.

Fitting a Chevrolet Spark 80amp alternator with alloy alloy pulley, still weighs less than the standard unit.alternator bracket machined down to mount the alternator only thing took too much off the right side so spaced out with washers. Only needed to machine one side to fit it.
