260Z Manufacture Date Information

What a pain. I was hoping to notify them of the colour change, engine change and manufacture date in one fell swoop as they take their sweet effing time to do anything but it looks like I'll have to wait a month for the colour change and engine change to go through, get it MOT'd and then wait another month for the manufacture date to go through :(

You can't buy a tax disc without MOT and insurance - why should it be different when obtaining your free Historic disc. They won't give you "tax" and run the risk of you driving without MOT or insurance...

Yes I know that, but why is an MOT required to have your vehicle classed as historic on the V5

Yes you do need insurance to buy RFL, you do not need your documents with you as it is checked online by the post office person taxing your car.

Ok, ok, you need to be insured in the same way you need to be mot'd. Paper documents shouldn't be necessary at all.

Dear Mr Setchfield

Thank you for your email received on 24/3/14. Your email reference number is 1879386.

The Chancellor of the Exchequer announced in his 2013 Budget speech an extension to the qualifying criteria for the Historic tax class.

With effect from 1st April 2014 the cut off date for VED exemption for classic vehicles of 1st January 1973 will be extended by one year to 1st January 1974.

It may be of use to explain that from the 1st April 2014 you will be able to apply to change the tax class of a vehicle to Historic at the Post Office providing there is a qualifying date of first registration on your V5C Registration Certificate.

The Post Office will not accept any applications to tax prior to the 1st April 2014.

The following documentation will need to be submitted:

• V5C Registration Certificate with qualifying date

• valid MOT Certificate (if applicable) or V112 ‘Exemption from MOT Testing’ form**

If you do not have a V5C Registration Certificate, you will still be able to obtain a tax disc in person at a tax disc issuing Post Office® providing you are the registered keeper or there is no registered keeper on record.

The following documentation will need to be submitted:

• V62 Application for a Vehicle Registration Certificate*

• valid MOT Certificate (if applicable) or V112 ‘Exemption from MOT Testing’ form**

*Please note that there is a £25 charge.

If the qualifying date is not on the V5C for your vehicle you must apply by post to DVLA, Swansea, SA99 1DZ with dating evidence that the vehicle was manufactured prior to this date a V10 Tax disc application and the above documentation.

Acceptable dating evidence can be obtained from:

• An extract from the manufacturer/factory record - these will have the chassis number of the vehicle against the month and year of production*

• An extract from the 'Glasses guide'- which is a comprehensive guide on production dates and includes chassis numbers

• If the vehicle has been imported and already registered, the original foreign registration certificate.

*A certified copy of the factory record (with the embedded stamp) will be acceptable only from the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust (BMIHT)

The keeper will need to write ‘Historic’ in the change to taxation class field in section 7 of the V5C and sign section 8.

You will receive your tax disc over the counter at the tax issuing Post Office® or within 2 weeks if making a postal application.

An updated V5C will be returned within 4 weeks. If a V62 form is submitted a V5C will be returned within 6 weeks.

**Please note from 18th November 2012, vehicles manufactured before 1st January 1960 are exempt from the requirement to have a mandatory MOT test.

If your vehicle is manufactured before 1st January 1960 you will need to complete a V112 ‘Exemption from MOT Testing’ form.

A Refund of any months remaining on paid tax discs can be applied for using application form V14 which is available from www.gov.uk/dvlaforms

Form V62 can be downloaded from www.gov.uk/vehicle-registration-certificate-v5c-log-book or obtained from any tax disc issuing Post Office®.

Form V10 can be downloaded from https://www.gov.uk/car-tax-disc-vehicle-licence-using-form-v10 or obtained from any tax disc issuing Post Office®.

Form V112 can be downloaded from https://www.gov.uk/getting-an-mot/vehicles-exempt-from-mot or obtained from any tax disc issuing Post Office®.

I trust this clarifies matters.

So the PO will only deal with it if the 'date of registration' (?) is within the period needed on the V5? So all of us who have a date of registration after Jan '74 but manufactured before will have to apply to Swansea with proof.

No mention of car club letter in their acceptable proof...
Has always been OK in the past, but maybe they want to make it more difficult for us?

Yep, it would appear so from that email.

Looks like it :(, but since when did Glasses guide become a proof of dates and includes chassis numbers, I'm never more than 3 feet from a guide and have yet to see one with a chassis number in it...??

Below is the correspondence I received a couple of weeks ago which quite clearly mentions club evidence.

My tax disc runs out at the end of this month. Can anybody in the club supply a dating letter?

Question: how often do they extend the classic car classification? It doesn't seem to be an annual thing.

Ali

Historic taxing at Post Office.

Recently tried to obtain a historic tax disc at the PO with my Son when he purchased a 1972 Cortina, they insisted we had to pay to obtain tax to allow him to drive the car home. They said historic tax disc only available from DVLA and we were given a form to obtain a refund.
Have now obtained the historic disc and sent in the bought one for a refund, but still not had the refund, now had to send a copy of the receipt obtained when purchasing !!

Best of luck when visiting Post Office.

Andy.

I believe it's now a rolling forty year cut-off. It used to be a rolling twenty five year until the labour government came in and stopped it some time back.

Thanks Dale! As a '77 owner I'm looking forward to not paying the £200+ for my less than 1000miles a year. My diesel does 10k/year, weights nearly twice as much and causes more harm warming up each morning than the z does in a year, yet it's only taxed at £120ish. The whole tax disc thing defies logic.

Thinking ahead to next year, Is there a list somewhere of 1974 manufactured chassis numbers?
mines 731 & registered 01/03/1975. I'm hoping this year will be my last tax disc purchase.

I will visit the PO on 1 April to get free tax on my 73 car, I'll feed back my experience.

April Fool
