Drag Challenge Prize Fund

correct me if i'm wrong but i thought the idea of prize money being offered was to attract more people to the event, the dangling of the carrot & all that,

yes this is correct

I am not sure if offering a prize has made a difference (Mr F will have the figures),but it was something that was tried

As far as I can remember the committee decided that if the club was to offer a money prize for the drag race challenge then it had to be self funding (from any source though approaching various companies was the main option)

Rob took this task on

Fair play to him for being pro-active, he has clearly stated what he wants to raise the money for, this is a specific issue, let the members decide if they want to support it or not.

I don't see it taking away from other fund raising the club does for other events, if people feel strongly about raising money for the club then the committee doors are always open. We haven't got anyone to go out and source donations for the main Z club raffle this year (write to companys for prizes, magazines for subscriptions etc etc) Now this money goes towards staging events like Billing, Zedfest etc

Getting sponsors requires effort and they like to see some return for their investment. The Club failed miserably in this for the first year, didn't do much better last year and now wonders why we are struggling to raise funds from prospective sponsors for 2008. I have pledged my support both physically and financially (MJP sponsorship) for 2008, but there has been no indication from elsewhere that any more money is forthcoming. I personally don't expect unlimited support from the Club's ailing finances, but the current attitude from some to a long running and moderately successful event that is a part of this Club's heritage beggars belief.

In my view this whole issue involved in this thread should have been discussed in the committee section before posting up here but hey ho

The sponsorship for the challenge started for the first time for the 2006 seasons
challenge and there was 4 traders who contributed £50 each for the prize monies although they committed to sponsoring it only one paid their monies in that year and the rest only paid up in early 2007

The committee decided that as the sponsors had not been exposed and promoted very well in the 2006 season we would not approach them for the 2007 season and although a member came forward and said he could raise sponsor ship to the tune of several hundred pound there was only £50 raised last year

In the 2006 season the people who came 2nd and 3rd in the challenge donated their prize monies back to the club which meant due to the lack of new sponsorship in theory that there was a £100 that could be carried over to the 2007 prize kitty and together with the £50 raised sponsorship it boosted the kitty to £150 that was needed to cover the announced prizes

Due to the falling funds of the club last years overall winner declined the prize money and again if needs must this can again be added to the overall prize fund together with the pledged sponsorship from Mike at MJP Eastern Autos should cover the prize money and the two kind donations ( I would like to name them but will get their permission first) we have received would enable the yellow winners tee shirts to be produced

Thanks must also go to Cheshire Signs for sponsoring the event in donating the outstanding trophies that were needed for last years event

If you fancy helping out and chucking a few quid into the kitty, it will all help at the end of the day. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Donated £25 .... I just hope I win it back :D

Wynn

Are we next going to ask the general membership to chuck in a few quid each Japfest, Oulton Park, Jap Show and all the other events

If its a voluntry thing to donate to your interest I can't see the harm in that

It might be worth drawing peoples attention back to Rob's original post!!

And the "fancy helping out", part. If you are not interested in donating then dont!! Myself I thing the only interesting part of this club is the Drag Challenge so I'm going to put some money in the pot. :)

So given the choice to go and see them in action and maybe participate myself then that’s for me.
Seeing them sat in a field covered in polish and wax isn’t. :conf2:
But as you say - each to their own !

Talking of which, why peeps then add 40’s, cams and trick suspension is beyond me :D

What a strange lot you drag racers are.... some of us that sit on tartan rugs in a field with a car covered in polish also like to give our cars some wellie in the real arena, that being a nice bit of road, prefrebly twisty, hills, roundabouts etc.Arriving at pre determined destination, lighting the barbie, having a few beers to chill out and enjoy looking at others hard work and enthusism.....is that wrong? have I or others slagged off the drag lovers? nope. I and some others stated its not for us and don't see why we should be funding a meet that has a "piss poor attendance"

Of course if you look at the route the drag racers take on here;

Spend three years perfecting the car for a 1/4 mile.
Turn up at the track.
pay £25 entrance and race fee.
Pay £10 for a greasy breakfast.
first 2 runs get blown away by lesser powered car because the settings are wrong.
wait 1 1/2 hours in the line up
next run.... It stalls....time pointless comparitor
Pay £5 for a cuppa tea and a cardboard burger
Que for 1 1/2 hours in line up
Getting pi$$ed off because others are pushing in
car just before me dumps oil on the track so i loose traction..comparitor usless.
Gett a cup of tea....only £1
Re-que in line up for 40 mins
Great run..... accept I missed a gear because the box is now shagged
I go home and spend a month sorting out a new box.

And of course the cycle begins next time......gimme a tartan rug, a barbie, a few beers, a tin of polish and a large sociable crowd and I'm well away........ each to their own I guess.:D

Ok I give in
At least if I keep me 14psi in the rear I might also get across your ploughed field and sing your tune ….
"When she eventually comes around the bend here she comes" :D

When ...... :D

I must be missing something here, why is a big prize fund important?

Surely the idea is to get as high up the 'Hall of Fame' as possible and have a good time trying.

If people are doing this for the money they are very misguided.

As a few people have said, everyone to there own! In a club like this no one type of event is any more important than another unless it is important for fund raising reasons.

The Drag Challenge is an excellent series and will attract those people who are interested in it, full stop.

Bloody well said that man......although i suspect its a case of "mines bigger than yours" For some of us with donkey as the nick name its a no contest.....lmao!!!!!!

Common sense

Each to their own. . . .bank accounts.

I've spent £5000+ & am still spending to produce Z CLUB DVDs
Therefore Donate where you see fit. I participate, albeit, as a
spectator,or filming or whatever, but I allow space for the varied
& different interests that people adhere to.
Knocking any segment is knocking yourself. Those that chip at
at the roots, will end up with less than they have now.

The revision of the rules for the Drag Challenge were changed to minimise the effect of this syndrome. The bias is towards loyalty to the series in terms of attendance and ability with regard to reaction times.

Happy Day'z. . . . .

The weather's Great! Get down there & have some fun.
We've had to wait so long for this kind of sun. . . . . .

I hope to be at Santa Pod,was at Billing last weekend and hope to be at Castle Combe on saturday.
I am not a petrol head but a member of the Zclub and have great fun out of taking part in these events. If some of the members say hi to me it will make my day more enjoyable.
That is my reasons for doing these things and I will not criticize other members as to how they take part in the clubs events , as long as they do and enjoy it.
Thanks H
