Wouldn't you think that there was a market for this service in the UK?
I wrote to SU a couple of years ago suggesting they produced SU upgrade/replacement kits for the Z market. Instead we have to get hold of 50 year old carbs off Rovers and Jags.
I didn't even get a reply!
Scrap the rusty old Datsun and buy an MGB is about as interested as companys get in the UK
regards reconditioning/remanufactured SU's specifically for Z'ds
Rob why is it amazing
Surely just doing the maths on this says that there just isnt the volume of work to justify a UK company investing the time and effort for what would amount to a handful of units per year, plus it wouldnt be cheap and to many S30 owners p), spending money doesnt come easy, no matter how sensible and logical it may be.
Rob, the cost for them isn't really in the development and manufacture of linkage etc, it's the people cost of creating and supporting the SKU.
I think it's worth remembering that the Nissan carbs are Hitachis. Hitachi used some of the SU patents under license, but made their own improvements too. There are not many SU-manufactured parts that will fit the Hitachis...
It's rather like the Mikuni-Solex situation. Mikuni Kogyo licensed the base Solex side-draught design, but did their own thing with it. You can't use many Solex parts on a Mikuni carb.
I have some of the proper SU dashpot oil and some 3 in 1 in the garage
rubbing both between fingers to compare, the SU oil does feel ever so slightly thicker,
tho still not as viscous as say 10/40 engine oil
Ive used engine oil in mine in the past and it seemed to run well enough, yet to run her
with the new needles and jets i put in a few weeks back along with the proper SU oil!
Hey Paul,
They do come with the idle screws all the way out so you need to set that up approximately before bolting on
