Skiddell/Pmac Airbox

I will definitely be in the market for an mjp air box, i bought all the other bits last year to install it, the air box was the last piece, and then Mike sadly left us before i got a chance to order one! :angelsad:

Copied from Mike’s site before it disappears ....

Two piece construction - back plate supplied uncut for you to match to twin SU type, triple Weber etc. or fuel injection. Improves cold air delivery in all cases for increased performance. Some self assembly required - supplied with six clips and weatherstrip to mount the case to the backplate. Large intake at front can then be joined to the front mounted filter of your choice with a length of flexible piping. K & N cone filters recommended - we can help you select an appropiate unit and supply - please call to discuss. External finish is in regular mesh pattern glass mat and can be painted as required. Interior in smooth gel coat for improved airflow.

I’ve got one if Skids boxes on my Zed,Mike also done the all in one front spoiler which is on my Zed
I can pick the moulds up for you jon as they are only up the road to me and bring em down in a couple of weeks when we do the Z if that’s any help

I spoke with the company tonight and they are going to send me some pictures of all the moulds.

I think the reason for their concern about moulds is that with Mike not around, would there be any future orders. I guess they don’t want to provide free storage just in case somebody happens to want a bumper in 6 months time. After talking with them today I feel we could get them to do a couple of runs of some popular parts. I like to keep a stock of bumper and spoilers and wouldn’t mind an airbox to try out.

I will pop over to see them and report back. I do feel that they may want it moved in the future if there is little demand for panels and I don’t expect them to allow just one mould to be taken I case they are left with all the others to dispose of. If anyone would like a very large van full of moulds then please step forward now.
Excellent news. These definitely need to be saved as a priority and would be an excellent resource for the club.

As for runs of parts, count me in for at least one airbox if that can happen.

They work well with ITBs, but with carbs I hear, done with dyno runs in the US for R&D, the airbox makes the engine loose a little power top end.

Personally, I think there is still some design flaws with this type.

Lose some top end or open trumpets and suck hot air / dust? ;) can’t win eh? [emoji1787]

Steve sold the car last year,I was going to have the engine and a few other bits but someone brought the whole lot so I went another way with a Rebello motor Steve now races a bmw 1 series last time I spoke to him

My point was only about the power skiddell's engine made with the airbox that bears his name. More precise sentences convey the meaning less well :)
If the airbox that skiddell designed is still a skiddell airbox, even though he doesn't own one, isn't the exceptional engine and car he built still 'the skiddell car'?

Matt Bannister owns Steve’s old car, as has been posted about before.

As for performance, over typical setups like open trumpets or filters, there are obvious benefits - and I’m talking seat-of-pants dyno, never mind what we know from Steve’s extensive testing with Emerald/Dave Walker that proved 15hp is a bolt-on real gain.

On my red Z, the performance change was immediately noticeable; smoother pull across the Rev range, definite impression of more (usable) power, total elimination of the running on issues the engine had due to high compression.

Any loss at the very top end is immaterial for a road car (and would testing in the US have used Skiddell’s box or the TWM one? They were not the same as Steve felt the TWM was inferior in design and quality. Besides, who trusts anything coming off a US dyno anyway! :p).

I have counted 8 interested parties already on this thread! [emoji106]

Maybe if we get that number over 10 then it’s worth asking the people who have the moulds to do a batch run?
