Hi guys i have just purchased a right hand drive 240Z she seems to have had a lot spent on her by the stack of invoices that came with the car. Paint not so good so will be getting a full makeover. Does any one know of any specialist or other owners in the Coventry area ? she could do with a good tune up.
I use to have a 260Z back in the day and missed the car so here we are again.
It has a glass sunroof fitted would like to delete it any suggestions would be appreciated
I like the look of the ZG type arches but did not want to go too wide do you have to cut the arches ? as i only want then to be for cosmetic purpose i.e bolt on and look good i have seen a few universal type on ebay are they any good ? or where would i get some at a reasonable price ?
Any help would be great thanks

    Hi and welcome.

Is the car on the road, if so it would be good to join us at Donington this weekend?

I think you might have to learn to live with it, sourcing a replacement roof skin in the UK is very unlikely, possible from US or maybe somewhere in Europe, but would still be a long waiting game, and expensive!
Obviously you could have it welded up with a patch, but that's very difficult to achieve, and expensive!

    Welcome to the club!

Avoid the generic fit arch flares. They tend to be flimsy and totally wrong fit-wise. Proper ZG flares (or replica ones made from moulds of original OEM pieces) are specifically shaped to the corners of the car. They are night and day different from the generic crap. Also, you can just install them without cutting the arches but it defeats the point - they were intended to be fitted with trimmed arches to clearance larger diameter wheels and appropriate ride height. Without cutting, you end up have to run jacked up ride height and/or stiff suspension to avoid rubbing.

They are available from a number of sources. Mike Feeney (Mr F on this forum) of MJP Eastern Auto can source them. Motorsport Auto in the US (who Mike sources some stuff from) do them. They can be bought from Japan; I recently bought a set of Marugen Shoukai replica flares from Japan, which are quality items.

Thanks you for your replies guys. Another question ? The car has had new oil, oil filter and a new oil pressure switch but the oil pressure gauge only goes up about a 3rd ? engine runs fine no smoke etc. I did notice the switch has 2 connections on it but only one wired up seems to go to the alternator is this correct ? Is this the correct switch and should the other connection be wired up ?

About 1/3 at idle when cold sounds normal. About 2/3 would be tight for > 4000 rpm.
I don’t understand the other question.

The oil pressure sender wire should go back to the oil pressure gauge surely.

1/3 is too low with a new sensor/switch unless that's at tickover.

The switch you have will be a 280ZX one. I have installed one on my car. One wire feeds the gauge the other a warning light (not standard on a 240Z).

This is the sensor fitted as you can see still one free connection with now wire on it ? Its about a third at tick over then about half if reved to 4000 rpm. Most cars i've had the guage goes nearly to the end when reved 20180508_162808.jpg 20180508_162828.jpg

Yeh, that's it 280ZX. The unused terminal can feed a warning light if you want one.

Those pressure levels sound pretty healthy to me.

    Welcome

I wouldn't bother with the flares unless you intend to do it properly which means cutting the arches, using Marugen flares for best quality and fitment and getting some nice wheels in the right size and offset.

Car looks good although I'm not sure about the extra lights up front, although if you like them its all good, as the stock lights on Zeds are crappy I can certainly see why someone would fit them, just not from an aesthetics point.

    Enjoy it.
