My first classic (part-refurb) '78 280z, LHD, auto, Ex-California

Excellent news - glad it’s all sorted. I’ve just dropped my original starter motor at a real old-school place - the colour of the guy’s skin on his hands - an oily black - were enough to tell me what kind of a place it is. I took my fastback’s wiper motor there a decade ago - luckily he’s still about and working - must be 80 if he’s a day …

After FAR too many speed bump grinds I took the plunge and raise the rear by 1 inch and the front by half an inch

Completely new feel to the drive as well, which was an added bonus

Folks, so I've got the 5 speed I need and decided to start gathering the associated bits and bobs
So, thought I'd ask you for advice on where to get what etc

I've got a clutch fork and pivot you can have - although I'd be surprised if your new 5 speed box doesn't at least have the pivot in situ.
Autos don't have a flywheel at all afaik, so you'll need a flywheel rather than a ring gear.

I'll try to check the gearbox today to see if the pivot is there (now that I know what to look for 🤫)
Clutch Fork would be great - I'll PM to get it sorted
I'll delete the ring gear 👍

I might have a flywheel/s kicking about, but I'll need to find them first

And they might be 240Z ones which run a smaller diameter clutch?

Its for a larger 240mm clutch I think ( would have to check). You can use either the smaller diameter
or the larger 240mm clutch, just the clutch cover dowels will need to be moved to suit.
You will also need a clutch bearing collar for a 280ZX, the taller one. You’ll need this even if you use a standard flywheel and 240mm clutch plate.

I have the clutch to slave tubing from a manual 240z but shipping is expensive for sure from the states.

Have some bits on your list,

Gearstick, gearbox gear stick inner boot, pedal box, tunnel boot retaining ring, gearstick gaiter clips,

Regards, Mark

Headlight Covers

So, today I am going to get started installed the nice new smoked light covers I have
Question - the rubber weather strip that goes around each of the headlight covers....where do you leave the join ? top left? , bottom left? , top right ?, you get the idea ....
For water-purposes I am thinking - right at the bottom : front point of the light covers
For aesthetics - bottom : back of the covers

Any suggestions/recommendations/factory spec ??

Front makes most sense to me, as it's the lowest point right?
Only thing against that is that the front would be where water is more likely to get forced in when the car is moving.
