Full FRP body shell 240s on ebay!?

A track-day car s'pose...........?

Or someone call Andy back to make that 'ultimate' Z...............

Nice idea but really what would the final cost of a complete "proper"car be? After all is said and done you'd probably be close to cost wise and better off with one of Duncans Zfarm remanufactured 240's and it would always be worth more than a "plastic pig"

lest we forget the humble scimitar.. plus one or two other fibreglass cars... er um TVR.. etc.. pretty strong stuff GRP. make boats out of it as well and some big un's at that.

The only thing I can add to this discussion is this: I work with firearms, repairing, rebuilding and inspections. We would never use FRP in a stressed part of a weapon, usually only steel will do. Having said that, a manufacturer named Glock make a number of pistols and assault rifles out of non-metal materials proving that there are exceptions to every rule.

Only way to find out is for someone here to buy one and drive it. If he/she survives..... probably a good buy! Haha

I actually quite fancy the MK1 escort as my next project, The amount of after market stuff available for escorts is incredible, If I thought I could build one with a full escort interior and some nice choice susp & brake mods along with a modern engine and box I think I'd be very tempted.

It would make a fun car for the wife to enjoy as long as it was as you say safe.

mx5 would be ideal for a donor for either bodykit 240Z/escort

Nicknamed "Combat Tupperware" if I'm correct due to the polymer parts!

It would be interesting to see a complete car TBH. I think the most valid point made however is the one over the amount of money and effort needed to build one of these up - all the painstaking drilling/bracketry, etc - making everything bolt up to the shell. Much easier to start with a real rebuilt Z shell and use FRP/CF panels bolted to it if you want to go the lightweight route. A rustproof Z does have a certain appeal though...

You have to ask the question;

Of all of the 240/260 left in the world how many are worthy of the marque?

I guess anything to keep a Z alive be it it plastic pig or other would be a starting point.....oh what a shame!

I'm a fan of the MX5, but personally I'd market the car as a replica using Z33 chassis and running gear. At least you could argue the replica has "Z DNA".

Those of you with Concourse cars aren't going to like these GRP shells and I can understand why. As I've said all along they may be a way of using the mechanicals from a rotton 240Z/260Z (280ZX?). However the work needed to produce a smart road car would be significant and as mentioned previously an imported shell or doing extensive repairs to a rusty shell may even be less aggro.

I have been in contact with the manufacturing contact and there is still lots to be done ( as many people thought). I see the future of these shells (if there is one) in trackday/race car projects or 're-skinning' a metal car (yes rear-quarter fabrication work would be needed). Whichever, I think a full rollcage would be needed to 'pick-up' strut mounts etc. and provide rigidity and a safe environment to drive in. Of course you would probably end up with a car as heavy as the original then!

I'm sure these cars will not threaten normal 240Z/260Z values or desirability, but would be an interesting project for the brave.

Zedhead260 and Grolls, this is really boring and a 'turn off' for anyone originally interested in this thread. :smash:

In fact I'm seriously thinking of editing it down to 'on topic' posts about the FRP bodyshell.

Enough is enough.

No Rob - you're boring and so are you moderators - as soon as any discussion gets emotional, you turn it off - disgraceful !

This 'shell' can't be used as a racing project - where is it homologated ?

This moderation is another reason why there is so little interest in this forum....let things run and cool down naturally !
