Drag Challenge 1st round

What a corking day at the pod, weather was perfect. Cold dense air but sunny and dry.

Nice meeting everyone, roll on the next round! :D

Exceptionally good day, many people had as many as 12 runs, would have been more if a biker hadn't decided to get off his bike at 130 mph

Some excellent times were produced including...wait for it a 13.33 run by John Mason making it the second fastest Road legal L6 of all time and means I now have to get my finger out:unsure:
Frank Marino ran a 13.66 in his "reserve" Z32
Darren Styles brought his RB26 engined 240 out to play and made a good start with some low 14 passes
Even the Pod Meister had a go in his RB engined creepy coupe

If you didnt come you missed a load of fun.

And how quick were you Steve?

Absolutely. Brilliant day out. After a layoff of 18 months it was good get back on the track.
there were THREE well modded NA Z32s out today. Dave Chung in his grey slicktop, Bantambunny in Jimi Angeles old 2+2 and me in my newish acquired 95 spec Version S Slicktop
Without a doubt the best and closest side by side action I have ever experienced between the three of us. Little to choose in Elapsed times 14.6 to 14.9 covered all 3 cars and 92 to 95 mph spread on terminals. You will see all the detail once the results are officially posted.
Next round is the Sunday after Japfest. May 18th.:D

I need more power... the youngsters are beating me!!!

Anyone else out there in an NA who wants to play??????
The more we have the better the fun;)

Results now officially entered into the Drag Challenge area (click Member Area above, then click Drag Challenge). Hope I got everyone in and entered correctly.

Congratulations to those who attended - 9 Zs, 1 Stagea (MJP company hack) and 7 Spectator members. Conditions ideal for good horsepower and not too many traction issues either.

Great reaction time from Bantam Bunny doing a "Hamilton" late qualifier when he realised he was only in second place on the reaction league! Ten points well earned!

For future attendance make sure you now get your Santa Pod sign-on Loyalty Card - get it stamped for signing-on at four meets and get the fifth F.O.C. Worth £20 to you at some time later this year if you intend to come to the whole Drag Challenge Series!

Im glad you thought it was FUN Darren.... Its meant to be.:D
I personally thought you were very brave bringing the car AND running it given that it is only just on the road.
Those of us with a little more experience and practice know that you will soon be a force to be reckoned with as far as ETs go.

Its just a shame(as always) that more club members who supposedly have sports cars dont actually do any sporting driving in them, whether it be drag strips, tracks or hillclimbs.

Yeah I know I just kept gritting my teeth on that road outside the pod.

Running a 13.33 today was way beyond my expectations so i'm well chuffed .I'm running a 2.8 ,1mm overbore DJR Engine with high compression,Fast road cam,Hayward and Scott 2.5"exhaust off a Nismo 1 3/4" Header, triple 45's through a steve kiddell airbox, Alloy flywheel ,Late 280zx box ,3.9 Quaife Diff and Toyo crack when there cold Tyres. This recipe seems to work very well so thanks to Steve ,Dave and everyone else who's given me advice along the way,see you all at round 2......

I try to attend when I can (thought My Z31na aint up to much more than mid 17's) it's the fun factor and club spirit that counts

Unfortunately, that just doesn't happen often enough.

It's just a shame that this weekend was the time I did a north UK tour to get all the parts required to restore my U11 after some thieveing (edited for xtreme bad language) stole it

And I have 3 other cars currently under restoration and a Transit van due an MOT. :(

And Burnsie owes me about 4 grand for membership duties too. (tight-arse) :)

Still, hopefully next time, I really wanna know what a 2.5DI Tranny is really made of on the strip

Yes I know this is the 3rd post in the same thread, but my thinking is slow tonight, and I have admin rights so I can get away with it, It aint Spam

Most members don't "supposedly" have these cars, they "actually" have these cars. ( I can supply figures if required)

However, the likes of the above members, Skiddell, Bantam, Zedhead, et al, have prepped their cars for this kind of situation

Many other members have lovingly lost their wives, their childrens college funds and other such trivial things in order to restore their Zeds to their original glory, spending 10's of thousands of pounds in the process.

When you love something that much, to risk everything for it, do they really wanna risk the chance of throwing it all away in 14 seconds.

Think about that for a moment.

I do agree that most of the owners of zed's whatever derivation may have spent 10,000+ restoring them but surely boxing the cars up in a musty garage for the rest of their lives is a crying shame.

I use my zed as a daily run araound when i'm not driving the scorpio and although 90% of the time i drive it carefully and smoothly it was designed as a sports car and days like today and track days at castle combe/silverstone really hit home what these cars are capable of

I pulled back into the pits, the tyres warm, left it running to cool down then it drove like nothing had happened all the way back home with a driver with a huge grin on his face

Plus there's the social aspect to it too, i've hardly met any members off here compared to the 300zx.co.uk club because nobody comes out for any events
