Colour choice!

I meant the colour ;) The rest is ok...

Hmmm sod silver, gonna go for something more interesting I think! Although silver does look classy that blue looks more fun.

Yes, grey does look classy but one sees it everywhere - pick a colour that stands out from the rest - my family car is grey.....

Grey is also a colour people choose when they can't make their minds up !

Be original (in thought) and remember that it is a '70s sportscar !

How about duck-egg blue with black hardware (bumper, wheels, j.d.m. mirrors etc)...

Grey/Silver is a no from me. I don't dislike it at all (it looks really classy) but think back 2-3 years and how many new cars were being sold in grey or silver? All the Vauxhalls, Audis, BMWs (bleaughhhrr!) and Fords. It's only the Peugeots with that metallic blue that were any different.

How much did your Pulsar weigh ? How much power will your Z have ? THAT will determine how much braking you need - My 270mm ventilated discs with four pots stop me from 230kmh to 70 very quickly and continue to do so. What age was the Pulsar to look ok with 16s ?

My Pulsar weighed in at 1240 kg so wasn't to lardy for a four wheel drive car ;).

As you can see the wheels suited it quite nicely.

As far as power goes for the Z then I'm going to start off with the standard break set up and just run the 2.6 engine and twin 240 carbs to start off with, I'm going to get the body and interior right before I start buggering around with modding the engine power.

I have a spare 2.8 ZX engine in the garage and I plane to get that rebuilt next year maybe, I might get it built to take a super charger so I'd hope to see around 300 bhp max.

If I can get AP calipers to go under 15" wheels then I might think about that option, But I will defiantly not be using wilwoods or the like, And that is just a personal choice after experiencing their build quality and effectiveness on my mates Pulsar :(. So anybody using them that is happy please don't take offence it's just my opinion.

I think I've made my choice regarding colour now, It will be one of the last two blues in the thread, Thanks very much for your input guys :D.

Ha, ha - you don't think you get off that easily now your colour choice is made ? What about blacking out the exhaust tip - can't have chrome showing.....

Your Pulsar was 200kgs heavier then - the same as a 280ZX 2+2 - nearly 20% off a 2 seater Z !

Make sure that the suspension can handle the power and brakes.....and the skinny tyres on your Pulsar will look silly on a Z......just my opinion;)

I tend to agree mate , I'll have to give it more thought.

I will be ordering some new suspension when I make up my mind on what to go for, I don't fancy coil overs after experiencing them on my pulsar until I needed a new spine and changed back to standard style shocks .

Will also be going for a full set of poly bushes and some better anti roll bars, I have already got some adjustable front tie bars ? sitting in the garage.

If any of you guys reading this have cut out your boot floor to take a fuel cell I'd appreciate picking your brains on what size to cut the whole and where to find a suitable tank, I want one with a proper internal sender.

dum dee dum da.......

How big a tank do you want - 120 litres ? You'll need it with a supercharger......:p

I'm having the car Jak photoshopped, in that colour, and I always wanted the RS-Watanabes :D

....that's nice - all driving clone cars ! :p

Make sure that your club stickers are on the same patch of window then you can look like the twins in 'Cars' !

Cheers :D.

Yes I'd like to fit the biggest I can really, Living up in Aberdeenshire I need to have a good range for driving down south to track days and visiting the family,

That looks like a nice clean job, I'm thinking of having a steel box with an alloy tank sitting inside it, I'd like to be able to have it sitting flush with the floor as well if pos.

Had some good news today the body shop is picking my car up on Friday to get started on the paint job :D.

I think I've made my mind up on the colour now so at least that issue is sorted .

I've had a few bits and bobs arriving the last few weeks.

2 new old stock Nissan door skins.

1 new lower rear valance repair section.

1 set of bolt on arches (might not use them though).

1 set of new chrome window/door trims.

1 set of new kick plates.

1 new front spoiler from Mike.

I've given the body shop four front wings 2 tail gates 2 bonnets and four head light cowls so they should be able to get some good panels from that lot lol,

It seems that when the car was repaired by the previous owner the bottom rear quarters where not done correctly , Their seems to be a 1 1/2" gap at the bottom when the bolt on arches are trial fitted, I might think about cutting off the ones one the spare Datsun sitting on the drive out side, I'll see what the body shop guy thinks.

Rob

I found the problem with the rear quarters today, I took the wire cup to the rear panels to see what's what, And found about an 1" of filler .

I think I will either buy new repair panels or cut them off my other Datsun :smash:, I've heard that the repair panels are a bit nasty though, I'll see what the body shop guy says tomorrow.

I'll take a few pictures tomorrow.

Rob

Well the shed finally got picked up this afternoon lol, But at least the delay gave me the time to strip out the dash/wiper motor/speedo cable/bonnet release cable and a few other bits and bobs that make it easier for the body shop.

I couldn't work out quite why the dash wouldn't come out at first , I didn't realize that the steering column also held it in place .

The roof looks like it's going to need a hell of a lot of work to get right because it looks a bit like a Scottish mountain range at the moment :(.

Rob

Small update, I got a call from the body shop today wanting me to bring up panels and the ZG arches.

Took a few pictures while I was there, Their isn't a lot to see really but at least they've started on it at last.

Will get some more up when they've actually done something worthy of shooting lol.

They have also taken off the old door skins but the door frames themselves will need a few repairs once they come back from being bead blasted, Because they look a bit holey and the metal is very thin it other places.

Has that been prev welded in?

Yes it was nothing to do with me , If I had a choice I'd of keep it standard but I'm not cutting it out and trying to find a good standard filler to replace it with.

I'll have to live with it I'm afraid ;).
