Colour choice!

Laurence Evans of Motormec built a Safari car in a "baby blue" colour that looked fantastic. It was a flat blue, not pearlescent or metallic and I think it was a Subaru colour - I could easily ask him. It was accented with black bumpers and trim as the owner stated that "chrome is for fat americans"

That baby blue colour looks great on this shaped car.

I do like chrome (don't get me wrong) but only on the right applications. I'd love a Chrysler 300C in pearlescent black with chrome everywhere. Or a 60s Chevy Bel-Air with FAT chrome wheels. Or the ultimate would be an Opel Firenza (fastback) in Ice White / Baby Blue flop paint with chrome 17's and chrome grille (lose the droopsnoop) / window surrounds (my ole man had one when I was a nipper rollin' on 14" mags. It was my first crush!)

I agree blacked out chrome and black rivet on arches will look the muts nuts.

I'd like to get some 16"x8" minilite wheels as well but haven't been able to find any at the moment, I don't want wheels with to many spokes because they are a right b@stard to clean.

Oh well it's all a pipe dream until this guys actually pays for my engine so fingers crossed lol.

if it is a car yopu are going to use a lot i would stick with simple colour as it is easier to maintain and easier to paint ie a solid colour and not a metallic or pearl colour and you can get away with older colours on a Zed.do not go with a dark colour as they will look dirty much quicker than a lighter colour.

or get a 1/18 scale 240z and paint it with a spray can to give you a better idea of what the real thing would look like.i quite like the look of 562 nissan /datsun light blue turquoise.

A light colour always shows off the body lines better. A flat colour is more period, will date better and as stated above, will be easier to maintain. Blacked out chrome goes together with Ford Escort door mirrors - very '80s - even white cars'll date less than that ;-)

Why 16" Minilites ? What's wrong with 15"s ?

We had a MkII Ghia with a pretend vinyl roof (wonder why no one does those any more?!) with black mirrors. I think it has a really cool retro charm to it. And I like white cars too (especially the R34, wow!). Definitely a flat gloss colour over pearl/metallic every day on yer Z.

please don't get me started on the colour scenario. i'm so flippin sad that when i'm out and about i'll try and visualise every car driving past me on my coming restoration 240z.

are these the kind of blues your looking at?

Better tyre choice.
There's a pretty good choice at 15" and the look is very different between 15 and 16 compared to 14 and 15 !

And if it's a 'classic' look he wants, 16s are aint it - won't they date his car as something stuck in mid-2008..........

Well it's a sacrifice I'm willing to make, I'm not willing to compromise breaking ability just to look a 100% retro ;), I had a 304mm AP four pot set up on my pulsar and they where fantastic on road and track with out any fad issues at all, And I want the same kind of set up on this car if I can find a good quality kit.

Also the Pulsar came with 14" wheels as standard and the 16" wheel I replaced them with looked fine and is the biggest size wheel you can fit and still keep the standard wheels rolling radius, I'm also unwilling to compromise on tyre choice either, Why on earth do people insist on fitting old designed tires just to keep originality , I want my car to be able to go around corners and stop as quick as possible ;).

I guess their will be no show awards for me :D:D.

How much did your Pulsar weigh ? How much power will your Z have ? THAT will determine how much braking you need - My 270mm ventilated discs with four pots stop me from 230kmh to 70 very quickly and continue to do so. What age was the Pulsar to look ok with 16s ?

Finally, my 15" Toyo semi slicks aint outdated or original......

Of course it's always gonna be your choice and you don't need to compromise. :)
