Classic Values (at the moment 12/23).

You need to stop comparing classics to modern day cars, yes they are both capable of getting from A to B but that's where the similarity ends.

I'll just throw this out there though, on a quiet Sunday morning on a deserted B road (if I could find one) my standard 1971 240Z with 150bhp and 0-60 in 8 secs would blow your new Fiesta into the weeds and I would be having far more fun driving it on the limit. If I was in my restomod 240Z with 300bhp and 0-60 in less than 5 secs you can bring a new RS Ford to the party and you'll still have trouble keeping up and less fun.

Quote "Don't get me wrong I love the Datsun Z cars - they are beautiful with bags of character but the valuations are hard to understand"

The answer is in your question - anything that is beautiful with bags of character is desirable and doesn't usually come cheap, you name it...................cars, houses, artwork, antique furniture or women ;)

I was comparig a rusty 'sporty' Escort Mexico for £33k to a brand new 1ltr shopping car costing much less. Compare your standard 240 to a 370Z of the same value. I've had both and know what the outcome would be.

What's beautiful about this? Just saying all along that classic values are high.

I think some of these cars are being sold by greedy people who talk them up and either lie through their teeth or are simply ignorant.

If buyers don't do their research and question the sellers claims - as clearly is the underlying message of everyones thoughts on here. Then there isn't much more we can do. Our collective hands are tied.

I'm disturbed by that fiesta price tag as well. I bought a fiesta on finance when I was younger: '56 plate 1.25 for £9k, my first car. Saw it the other day, it made my year seeing it still going.

Some things unfashionable at the time have now become retro and cool and now have a following.

Some I think may deserve their new found appreciation whilst others I still don't get 🤔

Thinking about it now, not many young car enthusiasts can afford the mainstream classics. Prices have gone up so much so that many wanting to get into the classic car world have to make do with appreciating the cars that at the time may not have been the most appreciated, hence values still low in comparison.

this looked like good value.

OK Rob,

Ford Comparision only for the same money I'll take this instead of the new Fiesta

and the Polo for taking the dog out.

Yep, as per my original post - a lot sold cheaper than expected.

Here's a bit of 'classic madness'. Can you imagine going to a dealer showroom to collect your £68,000 car and it was in this condition?

No warranty etc etc. 'We didn't clean or polish it sir because it's worth more like this'!

Non-runner, no history etc

Anyway I'll stop now on this topic, I've 'gone on' long enough.

£26k on a Ford Fiesta, your life’s mental …

Just look at it. I couldn’t even drive round in it.

This made decent money I thought …

Decent money for a 2+2 yes, but shouldn't it really be £25k + when you consider what your really getting for the money, I'd have this all day long over a LHD 280z that needs work, assuming no rot in the 2+2. It doesn't make sense to me why a 2 seater is so much better in most peoples eyes, it isn't. With the modifications on my car albeit fairly standard compared to many, it should be worth around £35k, but it isn't because it's slightly longer and marginally slower........ and!

The 2+2 can be very desirable with a few mods, yours looks lovely. A 2+2 EType is ruined.

I see what your saying, but if at the time the circumstances meant a relatively low book value and then likely expensive Nissan parts only for the repair, it probably wouldn't of been written off and we would be none the wiser. So all said and done, really shouldn't make any difference on price today, no?

I’d pay less for a cat d car(20%) than a none cat car.
