anyone own a 250 gto replica

Hmmm would love it! But all the work I'm planning on doing to a Z it seems a waste to spoil/change a pure Z into my 250GTO...

I want to spend £2k-£3k on a decent shell, doesn't matter too much how the body work is as most of it will be replaced anyway, just needs a solid engine (for the time being, as that'll probably be replaced too) and decent/working electrics etc... :)

Oh, and be a 2 seater, RHD, Manual, GSOH, would like to meet for friend ship, nights out and possibly more... no.. wait... erm... ;)

You want a lot from a Z for 2-3 grand ! It does matter what the body work is like 'cos if it's rotten, you can bet your **se that underneath is worse ! And if that's bad, the previous owner didn't do his sevicing either so the engine will be ...'tired' !

Is it me or did you not start out with a budget of 4 grand ish ? ;-)

Jeeze... If you read correctly above you'll see I mention a "decent shell"...

And £2k-£4k for a donar car is more than enough...

Glad to see you're paying attention and you're not bitter that I don't want any of your overpriced left hookers! ;)

Mark, a grand more (3K to 4K) makes a big difference if it's just a shell you want, with a decent engine of course :)
And if you think prices starting from 3500 quid for rust free, complete (and in most cases driveable) Zs is over-priced.....you could recuperate most of the body and sell it on to offset the HUGE increase in budget ! Yep, they're left-hookers but then so were all the GTOs - no ?

Going back to the subject, who else might have good shells - California Connection - ask for Miranda or Steve or speak to Dave Jarman or maybe Fourways and keep searching for that elusive RHD decent shell (that doesn't need new floors and chassis rails) :)

There are several GTOs over here and I've seen two complete panel kits for sale.

You seem to be adding your own words to my posts... I never said I didn't expect to do any work on the car! Nor that it would be rust free!

I'll know the right car when it comes along... I'll use the force... ;)

Mark / Tricky,

Have just bought a 2+2 so my 2 seater HAS to go by the end of August (gotta pay me mate back by then..)....what I'll probably do is swop the wolfies (on the 2 seater) with the starfish wheels from the 2+2 (very good tyres) and maybe one or two other small thangs...and sell the 2 seater for (much) less. You'll not be interested in the wheels anyway cos you'll put wires on them etc ..so it may suit you.

I'll more than likely put it on ebay with no reserve in around a weeks time. Its a bloody stunner I tell ya.

Just taught I'd let ya know.

Si.

Let us know... You mean tease us! :D

Theres a one up here, in the classifieds actually for about £4k I'm very very interested in!

Just wonder if I can get the cash out of my ISA in time! :D

Tricky,
cos i got a really good deal mate and it kinda works like this:

sell my car for (approx) £5,000
buy a very good 2+2 for £2,400........... (having borrowed off my mate who's pic is my avatar!)

thus leaving me with £2,600 to pay off some debts!....well thats the theory, but now it works like this:

bought the 2+2 for £2,400
will take the wolfies off my 2 seater, and maybe one or two other things, leaving the important bits like the triple webers, racing seat, harness etc etc.. and sell for less than 5K

...hey presto, i pay my mate back AND still have a few quid left over for that debt or two.

See, clever aint it!!....all thanks to demon who let his very good 2+2 go...take a look at his gallery..

Nice one, Si .

Tricky, if you want a Pug kit car, what are you still doing here (question posed in the greatest of diplomacy) ?

Hi try brian chapman at ivanhoe garage ltd 01709 862600 . 01709 866337 he had molds and a demonstrator a few years back. Im sure he can help. he is not always in the country be patient

So a 360 kit based on a bland fwd(?) euro box with engine in completely the wrong place and very little chance of upgrading it to something more suitable, or a 250 kit based on a highly regarded classic car with real character, hmmm, toughy ;)

I really don't think it will matter how good the 360 kit turns out, as soon as people know that it's a replica you might as well have bought one of the iffy 355 MR2 kits, or maybe that awful F40 TR7 that was on Ebay a while back :D Obviously it's a very subjective and personal choice, in my opinion making a replica of a car that's currently in production is always going to be viewed in a dimmer light than a replica of a car that's completely unobtainable to mere mortals.

Best of luck though!

Cheers,
Rob
