anyone own a 250 gto replica

if i was you i would get checked before it is resprayed.

Possibly that but also the roof line of the 2+2 wouldn't work with the body panels that are bonded to the car. Look at the pics on Dave's site http://www.ferrari250gto.co.uk/ the rear clip wouln't fit correctly without major modifications to the existing shell.

Out of interest though, a few people have said that the kit doesn't look right on a 240 shell as it isn't long enough, what's the actual wheelbase of a 250GTO and how does it compare to the 240 and 260 2+2?

Yes I'm feeling a bit too lazy to google it ;)

Cheers,
Rob

Blimey that's only about 10cm more than the 240, a much closer match than the 2+2.

Cheers,
Rob

i have had a quote to inspect the car when the guy gets back from hoilday
£250 to inspect! is this good ,bad ?

Sounds expensive to me mate but if you've got your heart set on it, it'll be the best £250 you ever spent!

Si.

As I,ve mentioned before.....I have owned 260z 2+2's since the 80's & my
2nd 2+2 was picked out by a company looking for a donor car. They quoted the
whole job at two grand. I said to the rep, that I prefered my Z as it was so I
did not sign for the conversion/makeover. The Engine would have been a L26
along with headwork & dellorto's 45 triples. So anyone mocking,knocking 260Z
2+2's can sit on a Q-stick. P.s Lay off Sean Dezart!.......
DJZ 60:D

Just got contacted from a GTO owner here in France - chassis = Swiss cheese !

I would prefer to do the conversion on a US 280Z 2+2 (cleaner and cheaper) than a UK 260 2+2 - over-priced but not under-sealed :)

Why does everyone think that a more powerful engine = faster car ?

When did you do your masssive poll to be able to state that "everyone thinks a bigger engine = a faster car" ? Do you want to rephrase your statement Shaun? As lots of people know its power to weight ratio is more important. Thats why a Lotus Elan won the big prize on the recent Tour Auto not one of the big boys with four times as much power.
BTW how is your reasearch into the Tour Auto going , got any regs or FIA papers yet?

Last year you and others stated on the forum that there was no such thing as a Datsun specialist, now you state you are an importer of US Zeds into Europe, which in my opinion makes you a Z specialist, care to explain your Volte Face Shaun?
Adrian

Polish up those rims Adrian ! I ASKED "Why does everyone think that a more powerful engine = faster car ?" It is not my opinion and I would have followed it up by stating that a finely (chassis) tuned standard engined Z with good brakes will outrace a badly modded, clumsy handling Z with 150% power of the standard car ! I am well aware of the Elans in HSCC and respect them as do the HSCC Z racers who have beaten the big block boys on more than one occasion !

Last year I stated that there were no Z specialists (in France) and it is YOUR OPINION to call me a Z specailist NOT MINE ! I AM NOT, I just sold a Celica and the word specialist is, in any case, a commonly misused term to denaote someone who does nothing but that subject and IS NOT a measure of competence !

What is it with you Adrian - gonna lay off or what ?

If the GTO kit doesn't fit the 2+2 models, then someone has been busy, perhaps with bondo for I have seen a 260 2+2 GTO kit, here in France. And I still maintain that the wheelbase of the 2+2 makes the GTO look closer to the real thing, a 2 seater chassis looks too 'stubby' with the kit on ! Also, bear in mind that over here, there were only 240 and 2602+2Zs imported so anyone importing this kit into France would find the market considerably smaller than in other Z markets !

Andy, I aint missing the point, I don't agree that because a car looks like a GTO, it must have awesome power (400bhp !!!) How much did a real GTO have (with a chassi sdesigned to take it) ?

Yep, if I must have one, a GTO kit on a 280Z 2+2 with an uprated (typical ZX do) engine to give me just under 200 bhp reliably - isn't that the advantage of these kits against the real thing - just get out and enjoy 'em, no fuss ?

That looks pretty good and if that's it's real number plate then that's probably worth more than the car ;)

Keep up the research. You might even be able to persuade PMac to go along and check out the one ooop north as it's not a million miles from him. Course I doubt he'd say anything nice about it :D

Rob

" i spoke to the pete waterman gto today" Thats a very clever car Tricky, is it related to KITT, talking cars are very rare so I should snap it up if I were you.

The 250GTO had the 3 litre Testa Rossa engine which produced 296-302 bhp at 7,500 rpm. The factory built 3 GTO's with the 4 litre SA engine which produced 390 bhp at 7500 rpm ( these cars are known as 330 GTO ).

As the GTO's wheelbase for the 62 and 64 bodied versions is 2400 mm and the 240 wheelase is 2305 mm the GTO body will always look better on a 240, I think the 260 chassis is too long to look right.

Sounds like you have had a sense of humour by pass Sean!
