Personally, I believe the shell looks better on the longer Z 2+2 body - the 2 seater is too short for this kit to look right ! 260Zs could be seen as prime candidates as they are generally cheaper the the 240 (deserved or not) - ideally a 280Z ?

Anyway, there is a LHD one on a 240 over here for sale at 4600 pounds !

looking at my kit car mags, there is a full restored 250 gto for sale,
£ 30,000 !!!!!!!!
look at the link for photos

as for the 260z can they run on unleaded?

Very nice but for 150,000$ couldn't he have found a better engine than a V8 to put in it ? Open the bonnet and ..... yuk !

Sean, Er a better engine than a V8...................................

Dave Narburgh from Worcester way is currently doing a GTO conversion on a 240 rolling shell I sold him last year, and a couple of other people are using the same kit too, I think he posted about a web site of his on the forum a while back but I cant find it, it must be in the archive somewhere. Adrian
As Adrian says, 'currently doing a' should read 'must get around to completing'. Lack of funds has stalled the project but I do hope to be in a position to get this back on track this year. Adrian , I will be in touch mate, hope all is well with you ....

That American car is lovely, real classy but it's not a Ferrari, basically a kit car, so the price is steep. Mind you Ultimas are made near me (my son Lee did his 'work experience' there) and they are a very effective and expensive fibre glass car with a V8!

No problem with V8s but with the GTO Replica I would think a Jag V12 is the most appropriate engine.

Well a Ferrari V12 would be more ideal I'd say but they're not that common in scrappies I'm led to believe, how odd!

regarding the Ex-Peter Waterman car, that was on Ebay last year, if this guy you're in contact with actually bought it then (I can't remember if it actually sold that time on Ebay) then you might want to find out why he wants shot of it so soon. Caveat emptor!!!

Cheers,
Rob

i was thinking a xj6 engine would be a cheap option .you can buy a car for £700 .at least 200bhp fuel injection ..

he was the original owner and he pulled the ad off ebay because he needed money for a home improvement,he also had an old vw for sale at the same time on ebay and sold that first so he kept the ferrari, i have been chatting to him over the course of the year to see if he will sell it to me
as for engines you can get a lancia thema engine as this had a ferrari engine in it with scripted headers too

All this critical talk about different engines for the GTO replica, the point is most people build kit car replicas either because they cannot afford the original or want a car that looks good sometimes even better than the original with running costs far below the original, now regarding the Jaguar V12 even if it would fit why would anybody want to put a large heavy complicated and very juicy engine like that in a Z, and we all know you can buy a complete donor car for peanuts, same applies to any Jaguar engine for that matter surely a triple webbered / Dellortoed L series engine would be better, in every respect, I think the only logical and sensible engine to go in a Z as an upgrade to the L series is an American V8, and specifically a Chevy V8, especially as the car in question was built in the US, as for the Lancia V8 it is too underpowered and fragile to make any sense in a Datsun which ultimately is why most people build the GTO replica, because it is based on one of the greatest sports cars of all time, and why of course many think it is sacrilegious to convert a Z in this way, and don't get me started on the 260 or 280Z is a better donor car, cos I think that is a load of nonsense, a Z is a Z and that is it........infact I would rather do the conversion to a 240Z than a 260 / 280 simply cos the 240 has the weaker body panels and would more likely be more knackered and in need of 260/280Z sourced parts to spruce it up, (go think about that all you 240Z snobs)
And apart from bang for the buck, I cannot think of any engine that can sound better than a V8, besides where else can you get a new 6.6 litre engine with 400 reliable old skool (carburettored) horses rearing to go for a grand.

Andy, The only reason I suggested a Jag V12 was that it was a relatively cheap engine of similar configuration to the original. I was thinking of the overall image and how the illusion is lost when the bonnet is lifted to reveal a straight 6 or V8.

Just internet small-talk really.

hes had a new exhaust fitted and new brakes and is going to have it re-sprayed aswell.
it runs on unleaded fuel
