A discussion about moderation

The libel thing wasn't a consideration in this week's moderation.

But... However unlikely it is, if it happened it could possibly end the club. So it can't not be in the code of conduct.

Id say if open discussions on PistonHeads can take place, without moderation/deletion/editing/fear etc etc, given who they are and what they represent, the club has nothing to worry about.

You can't name and shame on Pistonheads ... end of. In the old days of the site you could do, but then when these things get bigger and get a bit more organised, they have to go 'all legal' ...

Seems you can do it on Tripadvisor though ... ! I went to Restaurant A and the food was absolutely rubbish etc - but Tripadvisor don't get sued to my knowledge ... what, essentially, is the difference?

you can say you had terrible service at a place, it happens all the time, however what normally happens is that you get good and bad for everywhere.

Keyboard Warriors is what Nissan called them

I was a mod on another forum and I think this forum is not heavily moderated. I don't know about the Four Ways post but it does seem that there are quite a few negative comments on here that tend to bring down the flow. We are on here and not on Pistonheads for a reason we don't have to drop to the lowest denominator here just because it exists

Off-topic negative comments are what started the whole thing off. How is anybody to going to be able to judge between what is fair, justified comment and what is little more than grudge-bearing revenge with such posts.

"I've got a problem with my car not running right. Oh and DON'T EAT AT JOE'S!"

If I've eaten at Joe's many times over the years and had no problems, then why can't I post my experience in reply? All the more so if nobody from Joe's is usually active on these forums.

Yes there are good and bad businesses out there, and some good businesses have bad days in just the same way as bad businesses have good days. But they will both have their share of good and bad customers too, and I've seen well-intentioned but oblivious, unrealistic and ill-informed customers as well as the odd complete arsehole.

We are dealing with cars that are pretty much all 40+ years old here, and most of them have 'had a life'. I can tell you that the car in question - and I saw it in several stages of work - had certainly had a life. In such cases, customer expectations are not always realistic.
