'74 260z project

Cheers :) it never seemed like it would ever get to this stage, so nice to see it in colour (is white a colour?) at last. After all the bad luck I've had recently it was sheer good luck that a spray painter decided to set up shop 15 feet from the garage door! Not only that, he turns out some amazing results for a damn good price, Kustom Colourz (I'm sure I've spelled that wrong) - I can't recommend him enough for anyone in the Southampton area.

And it's not actually my cat, it's just always there. Watching.

Even when I have the angle grinder out, the little ****** has no sense of self-preservation whatsoever!

Hopefully I can find all the bolts again. I'm pretty sure I put them in places I would remember...

great work Morbias! I am going through boxes and boxes of stuff I packed away when I stripped the car. that was like 4 years ago, so pretty sure I havent got everything I need.

BIG BIG thank you to PMAC guy is awesome!

Respect , looking forward to another local Z . Tucked mine away for winter , but might be tempted out for the Romsey boxing day meet .

Never happen to me, Rose would never let me let the car sit there that long lol. She'd sell my organs to get the car back on the road if money was an issue lol.

wow, sweet thread.

Very interesting to see the work. I just wish I had the time to learn how to do all that kind of work. TBH that scares me and would find that very daunting.

Cracking work though, very very inspiring!

Thanks, finding the time is admittedly the biggest problem though ultimately worth it I think. When I bought the car I knew pretty much nothing, so it has definitely been rewarding. Still not there yet though! Putting in 12-14 hour days right now to try and sort out all the little bits that still need doing.

Such as...

the corner section that holds the rear quarter window frame together. Weird that Nissan used mild steel for that bit, there was hardly anything left of it at all. I decided to make another one out of stainless, not welded stainless steel before but it went ok:

While the welder was set up for stainless steel I figured I might as well repair the driver side door window frame which had a huge crack in the top corner and had split apart. Should polish up ok hopefully:

Also got the airdam repaired and prepped for primer:

Shak - without guys like pete mac and mike F, I would have been screwed - thank god they're about!

franky - not going to bother with the inside as it's all covered by trim anyway. Someone in the past has coated the whole rear deck area with some kind of waxoyl stuff so seeing as there's no rust there I thought I might as well leave as it is.

Nice work with stainless welding ,think your a lot like me ,don't want to pay a fortune for someone else to do the work for you, learn to do it and probably do a better job than most.well done :bow:Will look forward to seeing your car when finished don't try and hurry it it will be better for the time spent :thumbs::thumbs:

12-14 hours days! - how much time do you have? Dedicate for sure but for me, i can only get to the car at weekends.

Yeah, they play a very important part in the UK s30 scene.

Fantastic progress, I really like the roof repair. Thats a cow of a job at best of times to get right and yours looks spot on. Hope you find all your bolts - mine keep disappearing and I can't blame the cat…...

@astroboy - I only get 12-14 hours a day on it because I lost my job a while ago :p
Ended up buying a lot of new stainless bolts, no idea where a lot of the originals went, they were bagged up but I don't know where I put them :conf2:

Got the front screen in today, more of a job than I thought it would be, never want to have to do that again. Also had a fight with the wiper linkage and sorted out some wiring.

Had a nightmare with the weatherstrip adhesive too, that stuff is worse than paintstripper - it melted the paint straight off in a matter of seconds so now the hatch drip rail area will need to be repainted :(

Progress has been slow, time mostly spent shouting profanities. On the upside, I finally finished de-rusting and painting the fuel tank, started it last year but got bored with it so it was sat in the naughty corner until now.

I decided I am too broke to go buying things like tailgate hinge gaskets so got busy with some neoprene. Should help with keeping out the exhaust fumes.

All the other body parts are painted now except for the bonnet, invasion of the spare room is complete.

Today I got back my flares / tail-light finishers / spoiler. They're finished in Ford Magnum Grey, so the car will have a bit of a colour theme going on to break up the white.
shiny :D

Got the carbs back together, miraculously I managed not to lose any of the parts. One of them has a 151 lid on it but the bodies are all the same. Still have to sort out a heatshield...

Also, door glass bumpers... do these go on the door after I have put the glass in or before?

I admire your tenacity! This will be such a nice Z when finished!!!!

So I bolted the manifolds on to the engine and the last nut I did up just ended up spinning. Why is it always the last one? At first it seemed like the end threads on the stud were knackered but I couldn't actually see it until everything was off the engine.
IMAG0749_zps9256969b.jpg

After removing the stud it turns out it was also a little shorter than the rest!
IMAG0750_zps6c860634.jpg

Good job I still had the old head sitting there. After a stud transplant it was all good.
IMAG0752_zps3cc7da50.jpg

Bolted on some more bits today too, slowly getting there.

I still have to section the struts and sort out the ride height, been putting it off but the weather isn't getting any better so I'm going to have to do that soon.
