Sean if you mean Tony D in the U.S. Then he swears by them but he's happy to endlessly tinker and is in a minority.
It maybe my comfort zone and the fact that I've had a lot more experience on SU's (or Hitachi copies) but I know which I would rather work with.

Agreed mate ! Small problem here is that it is very difficult to find someone to set them up - even harder a r-road for the same.

The question of trader is a tricky one. I have another income a full time ish job. I've bought some cars that I love and I may sell a few. At what point do I become a trader? A mate of mine who works in the city seams to change his cars every month. He is a trader but on the stock exchange and I don't think he declares if he sells a car for more than he pays for it. How many people on here inform the tax man if they sell a car for more than they pay for it?

Yes Sean, you have first dibs.

Over here, the law is rather vague but in theory, one can sell up to 5-7ish cars a year before being considered a trader and even then, 'they' have to prove that you're set up as such and not just someone knocking out a car every now and then as opportunites present themeselves.

it's the point where you buy to sell, Which you're doing, I'm sure there's ways you could account to minimise any 'profit' on paper. However you know that, it's just about what you think you can get away with!?

Don't see it as a negative thing, quite the opposite. The problem is that it's quite easy to prove, having had a friend get 'caught' doing the same.

Not really sure what your angle is Franky but I would like to make it clear am not a car dealer. I never have been and never will be. I have an IT business and we also have a retail business. These are both registered businesses and one is limited. I have been into zeds for a long time and consider it my main hobby. I recently found myself in a position that I could afford to buy a few from California. It started with one and then escalated to five before I run out of money. When people ask me what I'm going to do with 7 zeds then my answer is I'd like to restore and keep them all. The reality is I wont be able to do this but I'd like to keep as many as I can. I recently sold one because I had stretched myself too far and didn't really have much choice. I may regret it but it done now. I've been at Terry's today, looking at the collection and trying to figure out how I can keep them all and not end up divorced. The orange one I collected today may well be the car that brings Sue round to realising zeds are nice cars and allowing me not to sell any more.

Do I sound like a car dealer who is buying cars to make a living? or one that is just getting caught up in an obsession?

Hard to prove buying with intent to sell even with the benefit of hindsight.

Buying and then (through personal circumstances or whatever) being obliged to sell which is what is appearing to happen now is the more obvious conclusion.

I'd guess that if more cars were brought over later then the authorities 'might' look harder as this action would eliminate the aforementioned 'personal circumstances or whatever' reason for previous selling.

Benefit of the doubt, assume innocent and time will time, in the meantime enjoy and live and let live.

Getting back on thread and going back to the car - if she runs fine on those carbs, don't fix 'em.

She doesn't run Sean :(

Put some petrol in it today as the tank was empty and then went through the usual start up procedure. Crossed 2 fingers on both hands ,said a short prayer, pump the throttle several times just for good measure, then turn the key. Fires up pretty much straight away then dies. You can coaxe it for a few seconds with the throttle but it still dies.

Had a read up on the carbs so may have another go tomorrow or just push it into a corner and play with another from the collection.

Any ideas?

Sorry Johnny, obviously I've no angle, I wrongly presumed from previous discussions that you were brining some across just to sell. My fault.

Sounds like ignition to me. Is it on points?
