260Z Manufacture Date Information

I know the discussion was brought up here:
http://zclub.net/forum/general-discussion/22668-budget.html
But I have not seen any discussion since, is anyone pursuing the VIN cutoff for 1973 260z'? If not I might try and make some enquiries, can anyone recommend where to start?

I am in the process of getting the manufacturing date verified for my 74 240Z First registered in March 1974. The VIN number bears it out as being manufactured in July / October 1973
I sent the info to MR F and he is, I believe checking the dating evidence for the car. He will provide a letter to the effect that the car was built in 73.. Give him a PM..

Cheers

I have just parted with another £225.00 for the year for a car which has covered a mere 350 miles since the last hit (this year likely to be 200 miles with an equivalent of more than £1.00 per mile!). I haven't a clue as to going about researching this but I am personally more than happy to contribute toward someone with a knowledge. My car is a 260Z on a very low VIN and first registered 12/03/74 (I gather they were manufactured from Sept 73 at a fairly impressive production rate).

Interesting news from Nissan, they confirmed that 260z models manufactured in 1973 are VIN RS30-000003 to RS30-000563. A range that includes my VIN, hope theirs some other folks here who from next year will have a tax exempt car

Mine's RS30 000332 so I'm in that bunch, in what format have you had the confirmation from Nissan Tom, is it something that's usable with the DVLA?

You will still need a confirming letter from The Z Club to present to the DVLA. This is a service that we provide FOC to members. I write these letters, so contact me for details. Now that Tom has obtained this information early 260Z members can get on the case!

year of manafacture

OK! who do i need to contact to find out what year my 260z was manafactured.
as it is undergoing a complete nut and bolt rebuild, it would be nice to know.

I got my letter from Mike yesterday and so in readiness for the 1st of April, as I SORN'd my car when the current RFL expired at the end of Feb, I just got all the paperwork ready, V5C, MOT, insurance, letter from the club, V10 and thought I would ring the DVLA to check which postcode to use to ensure it went to the correct department now that the local offices are all closed.

The helpful DVLA lady explained that the procedure is now that the Post Office can change taxation class when applying for a tax disc!

Apparantly, all I need to do is take the relevant doc to the PO on the first, change taxation class on V5C to Historic and they will issue me a nil value tax disc, take my reg doc and send it to DVLA and I will get it back in approx 4 weeks re-classified.

Sounds easy enough, until I get to the PO and the jobsworth behind the counter doesn't understand the procedure perhaps :D

I'll let you know :)

In the meantime, big thanks to Mike for the help with the dating letter

I'll be changing to Historic too - that's interesting and informative JK but like you I can't believe it will work first time.

The PO won't be able to help. An amended Registration Certificate V5C with the updated tax class (historic) will need to be issued by the DVLA. To tax a vehicle for the first time in the historic class applications will need to be made by post to DVLA, Swansea, SA99 1DZ. Documents required for registration are:-

V5C registration certificate
Dating evidence (can be from the club)
V10
MOT certificate.

You should get a tax disc within 2 weeks. An amended V5C reflecting the change of tax class should be with you within 4 weeks.:)

Not according to the DVLA last Saturday. When the changes come into effect from 1st April the post office will be able to process classification changes including historic vehicle status.
As I mentioned earlier, I am a little sceptical but will let you know shortly.

The information on procedure was issued by personal email to directly from the DVLA on Tuesday of this week. A bit confusing if you were advised differently only a few days before that. It would certainly be so much more convenient if it could be done at the Post Office. Be interesting to see feedback from the first member brave enough to tackle a PO Desk Clerk with a bundle of papers in hand:unsure:
