yea but if the fan belt snaps hows the nicely cooled radiator coolant going to circulate with out a water pump ????

if you need a kenlowe fan i personally would say you have a cooling problem, yes i can understand a "belt and braces policy"
but pleeeeaaase not one that mounts between the radiator fins with plastic nuts type, that looks such a bodge !!!!:D

Hmmm !

Good points and I believe the choice of electric fans is not limited to Kenlowes and is very varied - Range Rovers etc...

Still waiting for someone to accurately quote the power saved by not turning a standard fan !

well i must admit ive forgotten how to work it out but i think you can equate viscuss fan will cost you between .50 to 2.00 hp depending on size and as for cooling the fuel in the float bowls thats why you had a water cooled manifold stops iceing etc and if it helps any unused fuel gets sent back to the tank(will be warm now) but the tank is almost in airflow and mixes with cool fuel....

im probably diversing this thread slightly but the loss of such a small amount of power really is significant for the following reasons
1. engine set up and suspension is vital to performance.
2. the drivers got to have the skill and balls to gain from such a set up.

the real answer i think is dont cut corners; make sure the engine runs at the proper temprature and get the f****r sideways outa every corner:D :D :D :D :D

Electric Fan

I dont think you are going to see a major increase in power by fitting one, like grolls said .5>>2 hp, but you should feel a change in response from your engine :), pickup being a little quicker as the drag from the fan at low revs has now gone and you loose the "whoooosssssh" sound from the fan, as for the fan belt breaking just carry a spare and a few spanners, :D

Before you change fan from pulley to electric, record the whoooose sound on to a digital c.d, then you can play it at whatever temperature you want. You are all right about pro's & con's of the fan Debate, however Terry is asking for improvement's in a realistic & cost effective way,& something that does'nt cost an arm & leg. So collectively, every little bit help,s toward's getting your car to give you hassle free enjoyment, without conking out, splurting, getting overtaken by a granny in her wheelchair,& bonnet open with bus passenger's laughing at the poor bloke who's not got breakdown cover with the AA.So For Terry it,s A complete picture, carb's,engine,manifold,etc,etc,etc,................Please help with Terry's original question so Muttly can get on with it...DJZ 60.

If you want to increase engine response , the next time you're gonna change the clutch, change the flywheel for a lightened one ! If not, it's not a serious problem for you so leave the fan where it is, working perfectly for you and your engine !

The fuel is already nicely heated by running over the front of the head before it gets to the carbs, sitting snugly over the manifold. If you want to avoid this, re-route the fuel lines or insulate them !

Funny you should mention that, picking up my car from Kent and driving it to Muttley's Cheshire, it was the alternator belt that snapped (Twice!!). Then you've definitely "had it and your trousers just leave the country!!" (Thank God he was with me, no breakdown cover, no alternator belt and shhh no road rent!!)

Thanks for all your help guys, and yes DJZ60 you're right, it's the overall package that I'm seeking to improve, being overtaken by some snot-nosed kid in a shopping cart covered with an airfix model is what I'm seeking to avoid. Unbelieveably, wholesale increases in BHP is less of a problem. It's the recommended's that I'm seeking (and please 240/260 owners - trading it in is not an answer - I've waited 20 years for this car!!!)

Might be stating the obvious but don't forget the fan shroud is very important too, all very well your fan blowing lots of air but it needs to be pulled through the radiator and not from infront of it! Makes one hell of a difference.
