Sean, are you registered on MSN Messenger? That's how most of the business on 300zx.co.uk gets conducted, and it's a great time-waster too - even better than the forum. Seriously, though, it's great for sharing piccies, chat and getting more than 2 people yacking simaltaneously.

Over on t' other side, there's a thread with everyone's MSN login on, so you can add (or block) who you choose. In fact, I think I'll start one over here .... :)

JB.

I wrote a lovely reply to everyone and then explained to Sean what a vector image was, and my connection dropped and I lost the message.

I forget what I said now but the jist is a vector image will allow me to resize it without loss of detail or it becoming pixelated and blocky, which a raster would suffer from. Google "diffence between rastor vector" if you want more imformation but essentially the vector is all coordinate based as so when you resize it the image is redrawn correctly.

John: Great idea, I'll try to add something to the profile regarding the MSN profile.

As for a chat room, nice idea but the trouble is a lot of conversation will be missed out on by those who are not in the chat room... people who work nights never get to see anything and I feel something might be lost from the forum... just my 5p.

Cheers!

Thanks DJ, very kind of you to say so ... but I'm afraid my usage is often restricted to "ideas man", it's the grafters like Steve, Russ and Suzy (and others) that are the *really* handy people and make things happen.

It's nice when we do go through a period like this and a load of ideas spill out on the forum, which of course, is the ideal place to culitivate this "brainstorming". Let's just make sure we can sustain the momentum. That's the key. (Which is a call to arms as much aimed at myself as anyone else).

I have made some small progress on the template - but isn't it always the way? That when you have a clear mental picture of how something should look, your computer does its level best to thwart any artistic merit which you might otherwise have managed. I'll keep you posted, matey.

CheerZ,
JB.

Progress, incentive, and the interest attraction spurned on the Wright Bros', Charle,s Lindburg,& Steve Burn,s,with his very nice, moving Smilie,s.On another Z club Forum They,ve got some woman taking her top off revealing ' two very nice Z logo,s!therefore if someone has for e,g an unwanted Z item, which is taking up space,It could be donated to the club & given out as a prize. Therefore, someone donate,s a pair of spring,s,member,s number,s drawn at random & somebody get,s that item,Winner sort,s postage or pick,s up prize No cost incurred to Z club, this would attract interest & member,s could end with whatever is put into donation Z bucket. I,ll even Donate 1st Prize,(No not Sean,s car.).....................DJZ 60.......

I'm new to all this but what I would appreciate is a recommended list of modifications. I don't mean wholesale changes or recommended body kits but more the tweaks that improve reliability and then maybe performance. As an example I seem to remember from the dim and distant past that there was a recommendation that the carbs on a 240 were unreliable and they be changed to those from a 260 - can't remember the exact details but when restoring a car details like that would be useful.

HI,Terry. It's the otherway round. 240 Carb's ,are more reliable than the original 260 one's.The 240 one's are simple & less complicated to set up & maintain.the 260 one's have a poor reputation & it is accepted that they are difficult.
A 280 zx engine is preferred,as the N42 head is unleaded fuel compatible with cast valve seat's on inlet & exhaust port's.
A branch manifold(Janspeed etc.) will improve the breathing of engine & get rid of exhaust gas's unlike the original manifold which restrict's this. K & N type's of air filter's will improve free-flow air to carb's/engine & these buy once in a blue moon filter's will be cheaper long term than original one's.The 280Z electronic ignition maintain's a better spark consistency than the original contact point's & condenser set up.
An Inexpensive electric fan conversion, will gain a few horsepower as the engine would'nt be pushing the fan-belt assisted pully mounted fan.
I have done most of above & BHP has improved with reliability/ease of maintainence.
I am on the verge of putting " Jaguar S.U's" to gain headroom on the top-end.
I hope this help's you Terry,and 280 bit's are readily available at the moment...................................DJZ 60.

I don't agree with the electric fan bit - mount an electric one, sure, good insurance but a standard fan cools the engine and float bowls very efficiency ! A very small gain in horsepower is soon lost if the engine coughs with fuel vapourisation or overheats ! And the Janspeed manifold has easily been obsoleted by more recent designs !

If the belt snap's, you've had it & your trouser's fall.....................................................................................................The engine.work's more. at turning fan pulley & the windmill on it,& can only benefit from As you say, an upgraded non obsulate item ( electric fan )
I did put down Janpeed etc. which can induce any other bigger-bored exhaust manifold

If the fanbelt snaps, the electirc fan you've mounted as extra insurance will work !!!

Have you even measured the power loss between with a standard fan and without on the same engine ? Please don't quote the old 10 %, I was fed that 15 years ago !
