The cage has weld in plates with nuts on the underside. Its pretty thick plate, Good job I did try and install it as after cutting out the floor, part fo the wheel arch and sill there wasn't much holding it together at that point...by the time I have finsihed welding it will be a lot stronger, I'm going to install jacking plates while i'm at it, that way I can lift in on my 2 post lift easilly.

The SD cage is FIA approved.

I'm sure your cage will offer a lot of protection so a good install.

FIA approved, not sure how this would stack up after you have modded it. Also date?

confused about the mounting issue, where is it ment to be mounted then if not the floor and wheel arch? as long as the rienforcing plate is correct area and welded to the floor I can't see a problem with it. Tube diameter and gauge is ok. The cage hasn't been cut only had another tube of same diameter and thinkness added. The sticker says homologation number 309. I.d D004 21084.

Also wouldn't different types of events require different specs? some cars like historic racers don't even need a cage.

The cage really should have harness mounting points from new...there isn't anywhere else to mount them (to meet regs)

If you mount it as you say I'm sure it will be good, also I would think your harness bar is a strong addition.

All I'm saying is that after modding the cage (no matter how good) it may officialy need re-evaluation re FIA 'sticker', where one is needed.

My other point, I don't think SD could sell your version anymore because I don't think floor mounting (without boxing) is allowed. I may be wrong.

But as I said it's a wise addition to a car used for some quick driving. I've turned a car over on the road and was lucky to escape unhurt. The roof was down all around me, highest point was over my head thank god!

I hear what saying ref the cage....on the mounting side of things it cam with metal plates that are kind of like an l shape that once welded in place would form a box....maybe that is what you mean?

I bought the cage from fourways a few months back and its listed on SD site as the one to use for competition....they do one without a diagonal bar which is for road use only.

Your crash sounded nasty....Its the front pillars i'm worried about now!

Decided to fit my megaview device in place of my old Rev counter. I'm going to tint the lens so it can only be seen when switched on.

Thanks Dave....I was going to replace the passenger floor but after hitting it with a large hammer found it only had 2 small parts that needed cutting out.
So I have to fix the floor, weld in the other cage bracket, bolt in the seats and fitting dash back....probably late next week by the time I can drive it again.
Then I have to fill all the parts of the body I have replaced...I will probably spray it myself just to keep the water out until I get someone that knows what he's doing to respray the whole car :)

I just want to drive it again.

At last all the welding is done, inside is painted, Cage and seat bolted in. Big brakes are now fitted...thanks to Gwyn for the long studs!

Had a go at painting the lower rear end yesterday and today....the first silver was a really bad match so I loked through all the old paperwork and found the Paint ICI numbers. I sprayed the lower rear panels and valance, blended in quite well.

Yep I picked up a 6 point 3" harness off ebay to keep me safe :)

Moggy, how long should I wait before going over it in 1200 wet and dry and then g3? or would you just g3 it?

if you have used 2 pack with a fast hardener and are air drying i would leave it about 2 days and then use either 1500 or 2000 wet and dry and then g3,you only really need to flat it if you have any bits in it or the finish is not the same as the rest of the car.

Right ok, yeah had fast hardner in it. Will get some 1500 and 2000 wet and dry in a few days. Thanks! It's only a make do job until I get the whole car done, I'm thinking I may have a go at it now.
