Moggy quick question for you. Im not happy with the finish on my paint (rough) i think it went on too dry. I'm going to flatten it back. Can I flatten the silve basecoat before applying the top coat or would that mess it up? any tips on how to set up the paint gun?

Thanks

I figured it....my spray gun needed a good clean, went over it again in silver then put a nice couple of coats of clear on and its just as glossy as the rest of the car straight out of the gun. Now I need to buy some more paint before all the solvent based stuff sells out.

Are you painting your whole car or just the back quater panel?

are you leaving the back bumper off the car? I noticed the holes for the arch flares.......how did you fix the rear flares? did you drill right through the inner and outer pannels?

Yes I will do the car once I have changed the roof. I cut the outer arches out then welded them back to the inner arches. I then held the flare in position and marked where the holes had to go. I have screws holding the flare on but you can get these captive nut things which would be a better solution. I have a new fibreglass rear bumper but I will probably leave it without one.

Racer, the shell is off a customers car...its a fisher fury with a zx 1200 engine in it.... It had problems with the brake bias bar and wheels bearings, also needed the ECU sorting out...goes well 1min 10 round Combe. Got a Hayabusa turbo car in next week! that thing does Combe in something like 62 seconds

Superb! 1min 10 round combe is bloody quick!
You can't beat a set of slicks and a stupid power to weight ratio!

About to cut my vents in, can anyone recommend a way of cutting out a hole without causing any damage to the surrounding area? I have a small air saw that I was going to try.

The air saw is probably your best bet, Ide drill as many holes as I could along the line you want to cut then just go from one hole to the next with the air saw......

Or you could just cover up the bonnet and use a 4" grinder and knifing disk.......

i normally use a nibbler and then grind the edges straight with a belt sander or grinder.

Good Vid!

The steering looks really heavy or are you a 7 stone weakling? I may regret asking that!

I noticed the bonnet up to aid cooling and also a strange hissing noise before each gearchange;).

I assume you have a bigger rad/fan and oil cooler already.

On a safety note do you carry a fire extinguisher, a must with all turbos I think.

See you Saturday Simon.

the hioss is just the dump valve when changing gear.....and yes the steering is very heavy...235/45/17's on the front :(
About to fit oil cooler and bigger rad now. Yep always have an extinguisher handy.
7 stone? no think I was 12 last time I checked :) The steering is fine most of the time, its just the hairpins that were hard work.
