classper ?

And with the first shell still waiting for it's second zinc coat; proportionately, as the car gets heavier - the project is getting later :)

Someone'll 'av done it all by the time it's on the road - it'd be more original to start on the 260 shell first (and quicker) - no stripping, keep it lhd (no bulkhead swapping), stiffer shell........

Has Doms' car gone now ?

The weight of wallets is probably the reverse of what it was back 'in the day'. Today if you wallets heavy then you probably have 10 credit cards in it which you transfer the balance between every 6 months...

I vote starting with ZHead's wallet.

Surely it must be getting lighter every day? :D

Actually not, I have been keeping it on the ground by adding concrete ballast every time I buy something - have to say I am skint now :D

Not so mon ami, the project has another year to run yet..... it was anticipated to take two years, as much from a cost and affordability perspective as anything else. When will your three year project so far come to an end ?

Oops, sorry, neglected to mention it has already been converted to RHD but by the cut and shut method

I shall be on the track at Le Mans Classic in July - fitting really !

Well, that's cheap ! So the genuine Bob Sharp shell has already been 'mutilated' :) That reinforces my earlier point - do with it what you will (and listen not to the purists -they're getting rather thin on the ground now anyway - the purists I mean) !

Oh and congrats with the quoting

I had a great idea for your 260 shell today :) ! I'm really pleased with myself !

Since that even 280ZXs are now eligible for HSCC (Roadsports racing) and so the 260 is easily ok, why not prepare the car and race it ? Not Bob Sharpe style but as a racing 'road-car' !

Be good publicity for Samuri (isn't that just what Spike did back then anyway ?) and Lawrence has already worked on a 260 for rallying so he knows the car !

And it'll be cheaper than a 240 'cos you already have it and 240s have all been done - you'd be original again !

What do you think ?

SO exactly how long have you had a crystal ball and the ability to mind read ?? :D :D Logical really.

Long long way off, anything could happen but it's a great idea - would want it to be a BSR lookalikey though

To be competitive in HSCC with a Z it really has to be a 240Z as it can run 64kg lighter than a 260Z.

Although you'd probably still get away with using 240Z carb's on your 260Z, I doubt the extra 200cc would give you enough of a power advantage to overcome the weight penalty.

Also the L26 doesn't rev' as well as the L24 (and no, you can't build a 2.6 short stroke).

You are absolutely right Rob - the shell used would not be the 260Z shell ..........although it is the same as a 240z shell because it is chassis number 17. The BSR shell will be saved for a fitting purpose bearing in mind it is new.

Sean.......SSSHHHHHH you have obviously been told about high level ideas that are not yet enshrined in stone and have decided to bring them to the forum. We have 3 people in agreement. It's a start. :D
Let's just see what happens and THEN talk about it if it becomes reality.

WOuld love to but finance and time are incredibly tight - I do not have enough money and family commitments mean I could not drive myself in case I could not attend every race. Bit of a pipe dream and wait and see situation really

No I haven't.....but now you've got me really interested - are you really planning to do this ?:) Great ! But why with yet another boring 240Z ? There were Samuri 260Zs you know and I know of at least one 2+2 conversion ! I might have to 'project' my lightweight 280ZX 2 seater just to rub your nose in pit grease...

So, spill the beans mate - who's in agreement and with what ?

I think you should build a Bob sharp replica, all be it RHD but accurate in every other microscopic detail ---- and then drag race its ass

was that reply too predictable? hmmm I need to get out more.

Seriously though, get a well prepped car out on the track (one with corners if you must) get some sponsership, someone to drive it if necassary (not Wyn though as you couldnt afford the tire bill) and get it placed, noticed and written about.

Media tart !

No-one but you is going to write about it if it 'races' in a straight line !

But why a replica ? Why not something original ? I do agree that if a replica it must then it must a true replica be ! :)

ALthough the shell is quite special, it will only ever be worth anything if it is able to race in a specific class, would be good to try !
