classper ?

I have not bought any yet but have located the moulds to produce the proper BSR IMSA body flares too.

Here's one to try

The Nissan RB30 in normally aspirated form with a skyline RB25 head on it and of course throttle bodies.

Standard bottom end is good for at least 500 HP (it will withstand) so you wont break it, its an inline 6 and pretty much bolts straight up to a standard gearbox, with an RB head on it you will have a 24 valve twin cam that will make around 300 Hp (and withstand a 100 shot of nitrous without going into melt down) without silly spinny blowey things.

All that with a standard gearbox ! You're scary :) !

Bloody nice idea though ! I started off reading - yeah, but the idea was an L series BUT as you say - it IS an inline six, using modern knowhow - a sort of ultimate in-line six evolution.....

So Andy - you're going all retro on us ? L series and fuddy-duddy IMSA flares - hang-on, didn't flares come back in briefly last year ?:D

Forget what has been done before - look at the 350Z arches and wings and apply that to a 240 !

Not at all, love the retro thing, love the hybrid thing but you cannot honestly say it would be right to use #17 for a transplant ? It would be such a waste to use a new ex Bob Sharp shell for anything except either a full Bob Sharp replica or at the very least a race car ?

ABSOLUTELY NOTHING will be done on this until after the V8 - it is a struggle to pay for that, let alone two !!

Now A N Other 240Z shell ........ that might look good with 350Z bits on :D but then again, I still have the new Porsche 930 arches that look like this when finished on an S30 : (this was my original plan for the V8 shape)

well done with the new shell Mark Rayner told me a story when he first left school and went to work for nissan they had a brand new 240z shell it sat there for years and was cut up and placed into a skip because no one wanted it BRAND NEW how much would you pay for that today ?

Your shell - do what you want - is it a special works race shell ? No, I suppose not, then it's what any racer would do, take the cheapest base materials and start from scratch !
Wasn't there a story that a show-circuit 240Z got dented and then passed onto him (os was that Brocky ?) - the point is, the shell will only be special (imho) if you re-construct a perfect and standard 260Z !

If you want to make the car special, personalise it, bringing it back into the 21st century as you've done with the V8 !

Well, you put the question mark there so I assume you're looking for confirmation :) ! No, mostly answered above - it's all been done before - keep on being original !

That's the Norwegian 240Z isn't it ? And what have you got against 240 shells - leave 'em alone - go and play with the 260 fans - better still, sell the Bob Sharp shell and de a family 260Z 2+2 road-burner !

After all, and seriously - it is YOUR shell - do what YOU want :)........later...........much later ! Give me a chance to play with mine. It'll be on tha track at Le Mans this year, nah, nah, nah.....

Datsun Dave - that makes me cry to think of a new shell being cut up...

This shell will be used for an L Series engined car, possibly a racer, possibly a racey road car. The trick will be (eventually) to keep it in spirit with what it was supposed to be, a BSR car.

Much research needs to be done into the L Series before I would have a clue what engine to put into it - the box could well be a Quaife Sierra sequential but we are years and years away so it might be anything really. This is not actually a project, just a special shell.

I have a sneaky feeling that Skiddy is pioneering the direction I may take ...

Oh sit - it's Mr Creosote.....I'm going to run and play before the big, bad woluf gets me :) But, then Skiddys' plan wouldn't be an L-series engine........;)

Sean WTF are you on about ? :D That makes no sense to me whatsoever ! Lay off the Lambrusco and Hock and drink some quality red, I can understand more through a haze of red wine.

Who is Mr Creosote ?

Skiddy is running an L28 with throttle bodies in his car.......... the direction I was talking about was "why not a 3.1 stroker with Motec ECU and throttle bodies ? Would be good for 275 -300BHP and would be very tractable too."

Monty Mythons' Meaning Of Life - where have you passed the last 20 years Andy ? :)

Boring - Skiddy in fact was on about an RB30 with an RB25 head AND TBs - now that's interesting !

Last night I bought a 240z in Gran Turismo 4, lightened it to 780kg or something, 35 shot of NOS and 300bhp from the L24... It wheel spun in all 6 gears...

Do something like that ;)

What does a bare shell (no wings, boot, bonnet, ancillaries) weigh then? ZHead!?!? :)

Absolutely no idea Russ !! Will try to get it weighed before and after zinc plating if I can, would be interesting for comparison purposes

ZHead, if you could, I'm sure it'd be very interesting. I don't expect we'll have any other opportunities to weigh an unmolested shell. As my contribution I have just weighed a 5 speed gearbox and it is exactly 39kg (with slave cylinder and thrust bearing).

I will weigh both my blocks soon again for comparison, if we could start a real world list of weights I think it'd be interesting/handy.

I drive on the left hand side - and you ?

I agree Russ - 't'would be nice to have a wieght per part guide !

Hmmm...I'm in the process of doing that to a Z32, do I get a cookie? ;)

At the risk of starting a feeding frenzy...you guys crack me up! I'm a member of a fair few BB's in the UK and Stateside and, generally speaking, when someone has an issue with someone else, it usually descends into colloquial Anglo-Saxon and the questioning of each individuals parentage very quickly. On here...well, I've never read such gentlemanly attacks (or should that be ripostes? ;)). If you can get over the posturing, ego massaging and general mental masturbation it's really quite entertaining! Anyway, please "good sirs", beg my pardon for the interruption...en garde! :D

I vote starting with ZHead's wallet.

Surely it must be getting lighter every day? :D
